This happens by me a lot.

1. There is an intersection where the left lane can turn left only and the right lane can turn left or go straight. People in the left lane ALWAYS turn wide and go into the second lane even though they also painted dotted lines around the whole corner for where to go. Then they HONK AND YELL when they almost hit people in the right lane.

2. There is an intersection with a lot of traffic. Left lane is left turn only. Right lane is straight only. People ALWAYS turning left from the right lane to try and skip the traffic. This intersection is the highlight of my commute because the cops know this spot. I see them at least once a week on foot around the corner pointing people to pull over for this. Seen a handful of fender benders here too because of impatient people.

Yup, same here. Waze is pretty good in finding alternates, sometimes it tries a bit too hard for the result to make sense, but still.

People who leave 200-ft space in front of them in heavy traffic. There is a bazillion cars around you, all trying to squeeze into a very limited amount of pavement, and you are wasting 200 ft of it?

Is waze app really good? Better than google maps? I always hear people talkin about it but google been pretty good for me I guess. I thought it just for spotting cops but I guess its a bit more than that eh?

I don't use google maps for driving because when I tried it it did not prevent the phone screen from going dark, which is pretty retarded for a nav app. I expect they fixed it, but I did not go back. The only other nav I used a bit is Here, which is good when you have to stay offline.

My experience with waze:

- its ETA predictions are usually surprisingly accurate
- like I said, it's pretty good in finding alternates, though sometimes it does weird things. For example recently it had me switch to a parallel street for two block without any advantage, I actually lost a few positions ;-). I guess it is trying to make the best of the real-time data it's getting, and a wazer got stuck on the main street for a while a short time earlier
- it's volunteer-crowd-edited, meaning that it is rather accurate and up-to-date in populated areas, and people who edit the map typically know the area.
- also, if something is wrong, the volunteers will usually respond to user report (at least in heavily populated areas) and fix it. Though almost for sure you will need to provide more details as the system gives relatively little information to the voluteers. For example, they don't receive your destination or starting point, so they have to ask the reported for it. So if you report a map problem, expect a follow-up.
- until recently it could not do u-turns, but now it can
- very recently they rolled out speed warnings, which I find not very useful, as they can be set to show up either at the limit, or 10 or 15% above the limit. I'd like to have 18 miles above the limit to safeguard against reaching VA "reckless driving" speeds.
- you have warning for cops, speed cameras, construction, hazards etc. Speed cameras are verified by volunteer editors, which is good, because people make a lot of false reports of them.
- at this point it does not support the HOV concept at all. Also, it gets confused when two streets or highways run closely in parallel or on top of each other, but that's accuracy of GPS and I guess nothing can be done about it
- obviously, if there are timed closures and the agency controlling the closure does not follow the schedule, you may be directed into a closed highway, but again that's kind of obvious
- Aometimes you can set a voice of a movie actor or celebrity who adds funny things to regular nav talk. I know it's sort of cheap, but I did chuckle when Arnold was saying 'Hasta la vista baby" on arrival, or shouted "Get down!" when there was "hazard on road". That was when the latest Terminator was out, of course.
