Edit: Just a 5% increase puts a base V8 on the plus side of 35K (36.2K to be precise) and after ttl, damn near 40k. I'm not saying any of these predictions are correct... but GM does seem to be improving every aspect of the Camaro (based on current knowledge) and that usually comes with a price increase. Good thing, we won't have to wait much longer
I'd be really surprised if the base SS was that far away in price from a base Mustang GT ($32k). Options will always hike up the price fast, but I'm sure there will be plenty of rebates in a couple years.

That is unless they bump the Corvette horsepower up as well.
That was the case back in 2002. It's amazing how you can lie on paper till you strap it on the dyno. Corvette owners were pissed when the third party dynos showed up. The 2002 Camaro SS did NOT have 325 hp. The 2002 Corvette was rated at 350 hp and that's right about where the Camaro was as well.

The new Camaro SS 1LE is one of the few cars I could see replacing my FR-S in a few years.

I will agree, the Mustang does sound really really good, but it will be hard to hear when it's 3 car lengths behind you in a drag with the new Camaro.

Buddy has a 2013 1LE Camaro.

We spent the day putting headers on it two weeks ago.

It sounded good before the headers (has the NPP exhaust) but GOOD GOD after the headers it sounded FAWKING AWESOME.

Yeah I can imagine the raw sound and fury. I can also imagine ripping down the front straight at my local track in a 2016 Camaro 1LE with exhaust mods...

I agree that seems awfully steep compared to the Mustang. But it's always been a bit more, it's over $1k more now. They can chalk up any 'hit' they take on the V8's with earnings made on the v6's, so they don't have to make as much profit per vehicle... as long as the v6's sell well.

I'm just impressed with what I've seen of the 6th gen. I thought GM stepped up to the plate when they put the 5th gen out, then again with the 1LE, and then the wtf insanity that is the Z/28. It looks like they are continuing to step it up with the 6th gen.

And, this feeding us little bits of info at a time is great marketing to say the least. Totally builds the anticipation, we just want to see it all put together now!

Look at the stratification on the ls3

C6: 430 hp

Camaro: 426 hp

Ss sedan: 415 hp

Can't have that sedan matching up with the coupes, and of course the car just happens to respond very well to an intake and tune.

All of the 5th gen Camaro owners that go to the same car show I do all have intakes done. Several K&N style typhoon ones. Makes our FR-S/BRZ intake look like a little fisher price toy when comparing the diameters of the tubing and filter size, lol.

I am excited for this, but apprehensive that the windows will be taller than the span between my pinky and my thumb.

I miss the visibility my GTOs had.

Owned a 5th gen SS/RS. Visibility was gross. Pretty surprised that so far, 6th gen looks like it's actually going to be even worse... No thanks.

DETROIT – After 350 hours of wind tunnel testing – often 24 hours a day – the new Camaro will slip more easily through the wind, and drivers of the Camaro SS will experience a marked improvement in reduced aerodynamic lift.

These changes illustrate the lengths the aerodynamics team went to for improved performance, stability, cooling and lower wind noise intrusion

“The importance of aerodynamics increases exponentially as we increase vehicle performance,” said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. “As engine output increases, we need more engine cooling. As acceleration and top speeds climb, we need to reduce lift for better high-speed stability. However, we cannot make any changes at the expense of increasing drag, which can hurt fuel economy.

“To balance these different aerodynamic targets, we tested literally hundreds of changes on the new Camaro, millimeters at a time.”

For example, the initial design called for the lower grille bars to be set at a 20-degree angle to the horizon. However, after meticulous testing, the team improved engine-cooling airflow by 1 percent by shifting the angle to 13 degrees – a change that achieved the airflow target while maintaining the original grille design.

And rather than a traditional front air dam to reduce aerodynamic lift, the team developed a flush belly pan that stretches from the front grille to the center of the vehicle. Paired with small “spats” forward of the front tires, the smooth underbody helps reduce total lift by 30 percent – while also reducing aerodynamic drag.

Chevrolet will introduce the all-new, 2016 Camaro on Saturday, May 16, during a special public event at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park.
