4 hour commute?! The pay must be amazing for you to do that.

If your back hurt from an hour in a Prelude I'd say go for more of a comfort car like an Accord, Lexus ES or something along those lines.

My first job out of college I use to have a 4 hour round trip commute. On some days it would be 4 hours 1 way. In either case I had a new car and I just loved spending time in it (super charged scion tC first gen). I used the time wisely, practiced left foot braking in traffic and now I can do it blindly. The 86 is comfortable for days you won't have an issue as I have done many long haul trips with this car and have love every minute of it!

I find it very comfortable for extended periods of time. Although I've noticed that it's not the greatest after my coils as There's a bit more feedback at the steering wheel and my hands get a buzzy feeling in them after about an hour and a half.

I found out in my mid-twenties that money isn't everything. I do research for the Department of Veterans Affairs to improve functional outcomes for homeless Veteran programs. It pays shit, but knowing every day that the work I do improves lives is well worth the 4 hour commute.

Also, I broke my back in the Army in 2003, and I don't think our cars are too harsh of a ride; but, my GF hates being in my car for any more than 30 minutes...

I'm around 2-2 1/2 hours a day. 120 miles both ways up and down either I-5 or I-405 in wa. Used to dislike it until I switched around my schedule. I get in early, leave early. 7-3pm every day.. Now I get great driving and see the sun come up every day (okay, every 13 or so days that it's not raining or winter up here )

The car is pretty comfy for long commutes, i used to do 100 miles a day. However, the throw-out bearing on the car sucks. Stop and go traffic will take it's toll on it (assuming you purchase a manual).

One and a half hours a day to one plant three times a week and 4 hours to the other two times and I can't think of a car I would rather be doing it in!

The car is comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time, but it's not a very good long distance cruiser.

There is a serious amount of road noise from the lack of sound deadening, when I take really long trips I often wear ear plugs.

The car, being "lively and sporty" never settles down or relaxes on the highway unless it was just paved yesterday, it's an engaging drive, but it does not eat miles in the same relaxed and composed manner as a Lexus. Lots of bouncing around and a decent amount of steering input. Being light, crosswinds also affect the car a lot.

The stereo also sucks, like really sucks. Struggles to compete against the road noise at less than ear bleeding volumes.

Combine all 3 and it can be fatiguing for long stints.

Replace the stock 3.5" speakers with any decent $50 pair of coaxial's and it makes a world of difference!! Trust me, you'll love it.

I can say that the roads here in San Diego are so disgustingly horrible, I cringe every 10 seconds or so as I roll over a large chunk of concrete or pothole in the road that is just completely unavoidable. If you are in the OC, the roads are definitely much more maintained, namely the Anaheim/Orange areas.

It's a great car in the So.Cal. areas though, as you can drive it year round, there are some great mountain roads in reach for some weekend fun, and a great autocross community. I rarely drive with my windows up during the day down here.
Haha I live in LA and have real stiff Tein springs.... Word to this. Real fun until a crappy stretch of Sunset or any other bumpy, ruined road surface and I have to slow down and force my body into my seat. I have a super super thick stiff sway bar in back too so on bumps my tires lose that grip immediately.

I wish everything was flat, smooth tarmac lol.

Stock FRS or heavily modified for track use, yes... but properly setup suspension, upgraded stereo, and a little bit of sound deadening/foam in the doors helps TONS. Ask me how I know, 700-800 miles a week.. Bilstein B8's, Kappa Infinity/JL Sub, Damplifier Pro CLD and Overkill Pro foam in the doors

wouldn't want a lexus 'cant-feel-anything' ride but then again, a few years ago I would drive across Washington state (400-500 mi) every other weekend on an R6 when I went to WSU..

I drive about two hours total a day (an hour per way). The car feels great. The seats are very comfortable. I have TRD exhaust and there is not much droning. You notice it if you lift you foot of the pedal or floor it, but cruising at 65-75 is not bad at all.
