I can't speak to the daily 4 hr commute but I have driven for long periods on trips and what not ranging up to 10 hrs(only stopped for gas and a quick smoke/bathroom break) and I didn't have any discomfort. I'd say I'm more on the large size as compared to the previous posters 6'2" 220 lbs 38 waist. Getting in and out is the hard part lol.

I drive long distances for my job and put just over 30,000 miles on the BRZ in the first twelve months of ownership. It's fine on the highways. I also rent a lot of cars when I fly, and none of the rentals nor my Jeep have been as comfortable on a road trip. The ONLY time I have ever wanted out of this car was when I got stuck in crawling traffic inching up the I-10 bridge at Baton Rouge, but that's only because I have a manual transmission and my ankles were cramping.

If you like the way the car feels when you test drive it, you will probably be fine.

I feel for all of you long commuters. I have had anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. I'll never do over an hour again. I moved from Northern VA because of the cost of living, the snow, and the traffic.

I lucked out with my current job, on average about 17 minutes, at 5:30am with no traffic and spirited driving the whole way. Last couple days I've just been working from home, even better.

To answer your question, I have driven to Austin and back, only getting out to put a suitcase in the trunk, and was pretty comfortable. That was 3 or 4 hours and I felt like I could have kept driving.

I used to live near Seven Corners and worked on Capitol Hill. If my call time was before 6AM, I could make it to work in under 15 minutes. However, if my call time was at 9AM, I had to leave at 7:30 to be sure I got to work on time, with most of that time sitting on 395. I used to beg for the earlier shifts just to avoid the idiotic traffic.

I don't miss that shit at all.

I would say everyone is different, I had to rent a vehicle and was given a coupe mini, my back was a mess after 30 minutes one way to work. When I drove the 86 I asked to take it for a long test drive, the stock seats are awesome and I drive 30 minutes with NO issues. We plan to take some long weekend trips and I am looking forward to a trip to Florida this summer (about 15 hours one way).

Good luck.

Even with my tall (6 foot) and heavy frame, the seats are really comfy. Went on a recent cross state trip from Sydney to Canberra that took 2.5hrs (each way) and appart from the seat warming up a little (just body heat) I didn't feel at all sore in any way or felt the need to take a break.

That said there are other factors to be aware of like tyre / exhaust (if you have an after market one) drone as there is no sound deadening.

I commute 2 hours each way from Lancaster to work in LA with Swift Spec R springs. You don't notice the stiff suspension when you're rolling 10 MPH...

I'm pretty sure they can't afford to pay me enough to drive 2 hours each way. Sometimes you need to step back and revalue your time/aggravation/stress for a particular job.

I spend 2-3 hours each to work one way, I'm 5'8" 170# with lower back issues and I find it more comfortable than my other cars (Del Sol, Accord, Tundra amd Mazda2)
