There is no blind spot in the adjacent lanes with the stock mirrors if they are adjusted correctly. Fender mirrors increase the likelihood that there will be one by reducing the field of view. The reason the Rexspeed mirrors are so popular is that they do the exact opposite, increasing the field of view.

Nobody said anything about crossing multiple lanes. The issue arises when two vehicles that are two lanes apart both go for the lane in the center at the same time. If I'm in the right lane and start to take the center at the same time someone in my blind spot comes from the left lane to the center, we could very easily meet in the middle before I realize he's there. The problem also arises when someone is merging from a left on-ramp.

IIRC, legally the person moving from the left to the center lane has the right of way in these situations. So not only can I not see him, but if he rams right into me, it's my fault.

Therefore, the correct solution is to quickly glance over your shoulder to look out for people in your blind spot.

close the thread down, shaky shot 'er dead.

After playing with mirror adjustments for the past 4 months, with 200 mile a day commute MF, I can confirm that there are no blindspots for adjacent lanes when they're set up correctly.

Also, guys, take a second to glance over your shoulder ffs..... this is driver's ed 101 stuff right here

Its always hilarious to me when people have their side view mirrors angled so they can see the side of their car. Turning your head to look back is just asking to rear end someone.. which is cool, if that's what you're into.
Uh, no? If you are that close to ramming someone you are tailgating?

I believe a combination of proper mirror adjustments AND quick check should always be done.

I agree. Although OP can't do that because a quick glance = staring at B pillar

I lean forward. I haven't done a situp in years, and I still have stomach muscles strong enough for that.

People, just adjust your mirrors so you can see the lane next to you, not the side of your own car.

This ^

If you can see your own car (in either side mirror), you're doing it wrong.

I had a Broadway curve mirror on my center rear view mirror and it is adjusted to see the right rear quater window + left side window + rear window. outside mirror were all adjusted to the car magazine suggestion....wide out to see blind spots but not your own fenders.

Has anyone tried cutting off the roof back of the A-pillar to fix this?
Would that work?
