I noticed this as well. Seems like most things that draw power makes the idle dip. Seems like it likes to dip easy either way. It could be the brake lights, or could be a non related vacuum issue.

Without a doubt stalling could be entirely attributed to engine modifications, no warranty will help you in this matter. Very few people are actually reporting stalls on stock vehicles, you'll have to go to your vendor for help or take it back to stock, make sure the car is ok with a thorough inspection and maybe try the turbo again after you make sure there is nothing damaged.

Played with the brakes on my way home today, no effect. I swear the engine idle is entirely the AC compressor kicking in and this is a Toyota "thing"

@vubaru Have you tried going back to N/A or have the kit re-installed to see if the problem still occurs? Hopefully it's not an oem issue despite the fact that other people who did the same DIY/vendor install with the kit didn't get the same issues as you did.

That seems to be normal operation when the AC compressor kicks on, a reflash TSB was issued to help alleviate the problem (my car is after that so I don't know how bad it originally was).

You've got a lot of hoops to jump through to prove it's an OEM defect and not a result of your mods, best of luck to you but the odds aren't in your favor. Maybe if something comes to light on a bunch of cars you might be in the clear but that hasn't happened yet.

Idle dipping below standard rpms with noticeable vibration is not an issue that Toyota/Subaru care to correct. Installing aftermarket engine modifications and then having issues is kind of on your plate. Just my unneeded thoughts.

I have come to realize, anytime I push the brakes a little harder then normal, the RPMs will dip to +-400 then shoot to 1k+ and this would explain why it's usually happening while I'm coming to a stop/red light.

Sorry I've taken so long to get back. I have a great video showing the dip when you hear me press the brake pedal.

Give it a shot. Sit in your driveway and hit the brakes hard once or even 3 times. The car will dip and shoot back up.
I'd suggest you make a video to compare braking actions and idle dip to show that you can replicate the issue.

I haven't even taken it to the dealer yet, we'll see what happens. Thanks for your input, it just seems a bit dismissive.
You're right, normal operation does not include stalling (shuddering is up for debate) but normal operation does not include a turbo or an aftermarket tune.

My money says the dealer techs will write down your problem, open the hood, see the turbo, shut the hood and say there's nothing they can do. It's out of their scope. Best of luck and apologies if I came across a bit rude.

It really depends on which dealer he goes to. Some dealer techs are actually pretty nice and will do a full examination before saying it's the turbo.

If the radio needs warranty repair then they won't care about the turbo.. Maybe..
But the turbo pretty much affects everything engine wise as far as voiding the warranty.. You can pretty much count on it..

i had the idle issue after the "Warranty Recall" flash of the ecu.

ecu was flashed with my first ny state emissions inspection last saturday...

noticed yesterday and today that the idle stutters every 10 seconds when in park or in drive with the brake on... like the engine is having a mini stroke..

i took an iphone5 video and sent it to my service advisor at westbury toyota... he said he would look into it.. especially since my video caught it perfectly on the rpm needle. ughhh

Just saying, this is what my car did just before CEL problems kicked in, just after my drive in was finished.. A quick stint at the toyota garage fixed it right up, and after 2 months of giving the car the "drive it like you stole it" treatment, they stuff they changed seems to have worked really well.

Still having mildly unstable idle. 10,000 miles after the CEL fix now.

I would like to sit in the car with the engine running and not feel like it's running at all. Instead, I get a lot of vibration/stuttering through the chassis.
I know this is not a luxury car but still..

My idle is fine the the car shakes a bit at about 1800 rpm when I rev it up in neutral (6mt).

The VQ's always got a bad rep for being Thrashy, I'm honestly not sure why that term isn't thrown around more regarding the twins.

I am noticing I have the rough idle only with the A/C on. Anyone experience this?
