I remember reading an article recently that Toyota wants to have three sports cars:
- A cheaper entry-level sports car that would be entry level
- The FR-S which would be mi-level
- The new Supra which would be their top level

That's awesome, but I wonder why they chose BMW

To split the costs. Here is more info on the joint partnership:

Toyota’s collaboration with BMW allows the Toyota City, Japan-based carmaker to expand its European lineup of diesel- powered vehicles. The partnership enables BMW to work with the world’s biggest producer of hybrid vehicles as the German company develops alternative powering systems while fending off efforts by VW’s Audi division to take the global lead in luxury- car sales.
So Toyota gets more diesel and BMW gets more hybrid.

Personally I am excited about this partnership, could be a win/win for everyone. I have to think the pricing on the Supra will start in the mid $30's and go up to the mid $40's.

Current 135i starts around 40s doesn't it? If they use that turbo i6 in the new car I don't see a new supra costing anywhere close to 30k maybe 45-50ish. Just going to hold my breath but I hope it won't be out of reach for more common people like the GTR already is.

They need to make the new supra compete with the new NSX (whenever it comes out) and the GT-R

only thing i can think of is BMW still uses L6 engines. Hopefully Toyota sticks with the traditional Supra Engine. I have two MK3 Supras and they are big and heavy compared to my BRZ. However, I will be a little upset if Toyota actually makes one soon. In 5 years when my BRZ is paid off then they can come out with a new Supra.

You want a car that cost 100k+ by Toyota to compete with GT-R and NSX ? Here you go. Make sure you can afford what you ask LOL.

If they do make the supra it needs to be built to beat the gt-r!! This rivalry has lasted for awhile and the new gtr has a lot of things going for it. The supra should be built to hook, out power and weigh less than the gtr..Then i will have to have one This is coming from a 1.5jz mk3 supra owner myself!

True! But I don't see how anybody can beat GTR 0-60 MPH LOL....They do it in 2.7 secs. I personally love the 0-60 mph acceleration. The most practical power, as you can Ram light to light, or to the High-way with a smile.

With that HP power and AWD design, I don't see any $400k supercar can beat !

I say, Tetsuya Tada, clean shop and get a new team. If it were the 86 team they would probably go boxer. TBH, I'm kind of worried on what Toyota has in store for the next Supra. They could fuck it up since the MKIV is near perfect.
