Looks like Maxxis it is. Now I need to figure out the size, 235 and 255 are available, going on 17x9 wheels. Won't make a difference in the 86 Cup classing but for NASA TTC, going 235 saves 4 points.

Unless you have significant FI, go with the 235.

Not yet but you'll be the first to know when I'm ready!

I can't say enough bad things about the R888. It just simply does nothing well. It has NO redeeming qualities. Toyo/Nitto have 2 other 100TW offerings that are superior. Choosing the R888 is like looking at 3 beautiful women and choosing the 1 that's a bitch, can't cook and has the herp.

edit: good choice on the Maxxis. Looks like the best bang for the buck in the 100TW category by far. I've heard good things and if they're on pace with a shaved RA1 then you're in good territory, especially since you save money on shaving too.

You ignore that if you aren't competing you can usually find SMOKING deals on R888s. A few years ago when I ran them on my Miata, you could find new sets shipped for just over $300.

I don't see the point in paying a ton more money to be 1 sec a lap faster in HPDE.

But to be fair, my experience was in a properly setup Miata (proper camber, spring rates, etc) that weighed 2100lbs and had maybe 115hp on a relatively slow, technical track.

NT 01 or R888 Summer Track Tire

It is time for me to get new summer tires this year, and if I can swing it, maybe a set of dedicated track wheels and tires.

In general, is it better to go slightly larger or slightly smaller than stock diameter when going to a slightly wider than stock tire?

If it matters, I have a VR6, so good torque down low, but the top end is not turbotastic.
