Because the Subaru engine is stupid. In all of its incarnations.
The cost to do that swap would be much higher than a LS V8 conversion and be less sustainable as a driver. I fail to see any advantages other than being different. Of course, that is just my opinion and worth every penny you pay for it! |

I, on the other hand, see several. With a subaru H6, you can retain the factory transmission, trans mount, and engine mounts. Saves quite a bit of fabrication and money. The cost would be significantly less, but so would the benefit. You still have a standalone ECU, and all the associated wiring to worry about. I think nobody has done it because the cost/benefit ratio sucks and most people are terrified of standalone ECU's and/or wiring... Bottom line, it's easier to just turbo the H4 we already have. Oh, and our transmission is less than desirable..

A Porsche 4.0 in an 86 would be an interesting swap, though definitely not worth the money.

But, after looking more carefully, the bolt pattern is the same, but the starter is on the wrong side. So no dice. I was mistaken in my earlier post. Oh well, good thing I didn't start an H6 swap

H6 bolts up to our trans bit the starter is on the wrong side. Personally I don't see this as the big of an issue in the grand scheme of engine swapping. Nothing a little cut and weld can't cure.

Speaking of Porsche engines. The new 718 turbo 2.0 or 2.5 H4 would be really nice in a BRZ. 40mpg and 300-345hp. Well... eventually.
Getting side tracked... An H6 probably just isn't worth the effort when there is better options. It would be cool though. |

I'm interested in this swap because I think its cool, not every swap out has to be done in the name of huge HP or trying to break the internet.
