Well I may have to start buying parts soon...

It looks like he has it all down for sale with the exception of headers/turbo manifold and mounts.

This will be the swap to satisfy the hearts of purist wanting to retain a good weight distribution and good after market (albeit it imported) support can't wait!!

The way it should have been

Hey guys, I'm actually planning on starting a 3SGE swap on my FRS this month due to a blown FA20. Pretty disappointed in the boxer that came with this car, NA car and still under 30K miles.

As of right now, a 3SGE swap seems like the most cost efficient way to get my car running again instead of having to deal with another complicated and weak FA20.

I'm going to try my best to document my swap since I really don't know much about these engines and could use all the help I can get! I should be picking my car up from the dealership and starting the tear down this week.

Good luck to you, I plan on going with this swap as well when I have enough funds to do it properly. Don't care how long it takes.

Check out 86swap.com, they have a bunch of stuff needed to get the swap in. At around 3k (without a stand alone ecu) you get mounts, driveshaft, and wiring harness (plug and play). Or at least ask them what you would need because they've done it and they know what they're doing with the swap.

And defiantly want to check it out once you're done.

Yup. As I followed the development of the BRZ/FRS I was hoping that in the end the two models would be differentiated at least by their engines. Oh well, still like the car as it is...

So while we are on the subject of 3S engines, has anyone tried to swap a 3S-GTE in? How much different is that engine from the BEAMS 3S-GE?

That I know of, no. Only one 3S swap that I'm aware of and it's that blue one that's for sale.

Difference in engines. Quite a few. First of the heads are different in design and technology. The beams has VVT-i while the turbo one doesn't (think valve angles were different as well). Pistons, connecting rods (forged in the turbo model), compression ratio, and if I'm not mistaken oil pumps and oil pans are all different as well.

As for using the existing beams swap kit to put in a 3S-GTE. It wouldn't work. The 3S-GTE has always been transverse mounted and because of the oil pan and pump if you don't let it sit with a lean (tilt) you'll kill the engine from oil starvation. Also the swap kit has custom headers you'll have to source elsewhere.

The Beams has a better head design, would have better around time driving, and wouldn't suffer from turbo lag because high compression. The 3S-GTE has more horsepower potential (when shooting for over 500), and is more common in the United States seeing as how it was actually sold in the market.

Well I've got a hole in my block. 2013 WRB BRZ with vortech supercharger 40k miles. I'm think of a 4th gen 3sgte what was needed for your beams swap

gen4 3sgte is a transverse engine so it will not fit. The BEAMS iteration of 3s is the best anyways.

No chance the swap will end up costing less than just putting in another stock engine. You'll get a good used engine for about (or less than) what mounts/wiring will cost for the swap.

I've been done with my 3SGE swap for a few months now and finally decided now to upload some photos for you guys.

These are photos from around March or April I believe before I had a new harness and Haltech standalone ecu. I was running stock harness and ecu at the time.
I am currently using this as my daily driver and I love it.
