(That having been said, I agree that cars come with wheels that are too big these days - 17-18" is perfect on most sports cars, not the 19-20" monstrosities that you see now)
I know, but the 987 looks kind of big too next to a 986, whose size I like (but styling not really). I know the wheelbase is only 2 inches longer, but why make it longer at all? What was wrong with the 95" 986/987 wheelbase? A few percent shorter wheelbase means you get a few percent more stiffness for free right?

The Cayman should have 17" wheels, the 18" stock ones are already way too big, nevermind the 19-20" monstrosities. The amount of space between the brakes and rim is hilarious.

Anyways I know it's not apples to apples because there's more emissions and safety equipment on the 981 but imagine if they made the 981 with the slightly smaller 986 size, and the same weight-reduction stuff. A stripped down version could probably be under 2800lbs, which the Boxster Spyder wasn't able to break.

New 385HP Porsche Cayman GT4 - Official

from the press release:
Stuttgart. The new member of the Porsche GT family is the Cayman GT4. This is the first time Porsche is introducing a GT sports car based on the Cayman which has components of the 911 GT3. A lap time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nürburgring positions the Cayman GT4 as the new benchmark at the top of its market segment. It also makes a clear statement that Porsche will continue to promote radical two-door sports cars in the future – sports cars that are developed at the Motorsport department in Weissach.

I'm putting this on the used list,

Honestly, even just an S model or a GTS would do.

Cool I guess, but I still think Porsche intentionally limiting the engine hp is an engineering crime, and they decided to do that here...again. Why not just use the 3.4 and uncork it to 380hp? Or uncork the 3.8 to 400+hp?

I agree, they didn't just hold back the engine, but the pdk too. I believe this car is still faster than all the 911s except for the GT3 and turbo, but car is the same price as the base 911. Sounds like a winner to me.

The only thing holding me back is the performance bargain the z06 gives and the small need for back seats.
