Ask to see the service records, if it was lemon lawed then it was attempted to be repaired at a dealership, the records of those transactions should be stored.

Review the customer stated problem, if it is for a chirping fuel pump I would not hesitate to buy it. If there are other suspicious problems such as stalling or things actually failing then stay away, pretty simple.

both of these are at the same dealer. Both are limited Manuel transmissions. And it is a subaru dealer.

Should I try to pick one of these up? Or stay away.

Do you think this was due to the crickets? Could they have been lemons too have been bought back by subaru?

Help me out guys. I am familiar with how lemon laws work too so no need to educate me.

That doesn't make sense. If you're planning on driving a BRZ to, lets say, 150,000 miles, just continue driving the one you have. Otherwise you're just taking two huge depreciation hits (unless your'e buying the next one used).

I recall reading once that if one plans on buying a vehicle new, you really need to keep it about seven to eight years to balance out the cost of ownership versus depreciation.

Is this Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and Fuel Injector Cleaner, has anyone else tried this for the crickets? I've been using this stuff (on my BMW and Porsche) for years and they say it is good for the fuel pump, not just the injectors, etc.

I just don't like driving old/high mileage cars. We'll see how it holds up, what kind of condition it's in, and what BRZ's (or other cars) are looking like in 2020, along with my finances. Too many things can happen over the coming years to say for sure, it's just the current tentative plan.

My car owning sweet spot is typically between 10k-80k miles. I feel like that gets me the most value without being tied down for 10 years. I saved close to $10k on my 2013, buying it at the end of 2014 with 15k miles, no damage, and some nice extras. If I sell around 75k miles, I figure I'll have dodged the two biggest hits. Make more sense now? I didn't buy new.. that's kind of important to this discussion.

There's an extensive thread on this somewhere, but it can be hard to dig through.

I lot of people have had success with Lucas UCL to 'get rid of' the crickets. I tried it myself before figuring out which particular brands of gas my car likes/dislikes, as gas quality and additives seem to have an effect on this.

I keep a jug of it around as it seems to work for me. As I recall, the Fuel Injector Cleaner was deemed not to help with crickets.

Ah - sounds like you did well on the purchase. I've got 184,000 miles on my daily BMW (purchased new), I feel like I've gotten maximum usage out of it and I'm really wanting to replace it now. The BRZ is a possible candidate but I'm looking at a couple of others.

this fuel injector cleaner is much like putting wd40 on a squeaky belt, the noise will go away for a brief period but then will come back with some serious force soon after.

This is the one, you can probably just go pick it up from Autozone or O reilys

How much maintenance have you had to do to reach that 184k? I have several concerns with high mileage.. I feel like by that point, you're seeing diminishing returns for one thing. The way I see it if you have to replace 5-10k worth of crap, that's your down payment on a newish car, plus whatever you get for trade.

In addition, there's the discomfort/stress of driving with mechanical issues, concern for your car getting you from a to b without dying, and time consumed maintaining it.

I say this having just paid a couple thousand in repairs on my jeep with 68k miles, both diy and at the shop, as well as putting up with some awful annoyances in the meantime. I was kicking myself for not selling it a little sooner and having 2 thousand more to spend on my BRZ.

Tell them to knock a few thousand off and then get the e85 tune from Www.Delicioustuning.com which will solve your cricket issues lol.

If these are at a Nate Wade Subaru, PM me.
I was dealing with these guys for a few weeks and feel you should know some things about them from my experiences.
