A few points I feel need clarification:
1. Don't confuse "bedding in the pads" with "getting rotors turned." The former prepares a new brake pad for use, the latter removes whatever existing transfer film is on the rotor. 2. Nearly always you need to bed in new pads. Running them in your first session until you experience green fade is sufficient; you don't need to follow the manufacturer's steps exactly. 3. Certain manufacturers do not use transfer films that are compatible across the whole of their brake pad line. Call and ask before you pad slap and wad the car. That said you can pad slap if you are very careful, understand the risks, and are willing to drive gingerly until you've worn away the old transfer film. 4. There are other benefits to having a dedicated track-only set of rotors...like not prematurely lunching the rotors that get you to work. To the OP, yes you can swap fronts only - just realize that brake balance is going to be affected if you are running a proper track pad up front and a compromise pad in the rear. That's strictly a driving style issue unless you are competing. |

turning/resurfacing the rotor is shaving off a thin layer to get yourself a flat bedding/mating surface for new pads. This also happens to remove the bedding layer, but that is a byproduct of turning/resurfacing the rotor, not the primary reason a rotor is turned/resurfaced.

Just pick a brand as mentioned reduces bedding concerns. i finally stuck with Carbotech 1521s for street and silent on street even in cold. And for track used XP10. Back and forth was no issue on same rotors. Even when I went from 1521s the layer was so thin that when I used extreme pads like PMU999 that layer was wasted in one lap.
Whatever you choose stick with same brand for street and track and your material transfer issues are basically a non issue.

I have already had my stock rotors re surfaced once so i am not sure its doable again. Our rotors are pretty thin
