Give it another 5K for break-in. Not joking. Gets better.

Voted "Smooth as Butter", but, after it is warmed up. This box definitely does not like to be cold. Tried the Motul 300, mainly for better quality at the track; no difference when cold.

My buddy has ruined second gear in his rx-8 because he slams every gear shift like he's in a fast and furious movie.

as far as my twin, the usual notchyness with 1st/2nd when cold. My old service manager told me at 3000k miles when i complained about the transmission that i just needed to give her a real good rowing/thrashing once warmed up. Sure enough i did that, then changed the fluids and its been great since and only gets better with miles.

there should be options added to the poll about difference AFTER switching fluid

Ditto. Motul Gear 300 (or just the tranny fluid change in itself) at 16k miles solved both these issues.

The only few times that I have ground the synchros in this car have been due to me releasing the clutch too soon (first MT car). Hasn't happened at all since I've become familiar with the car.

No issues here, just a little notchy when cold, and its better than my other Subaru transmissions have been.

Replaced the fluid IMMEDIATELY when I purchased the car thats the best thing you can do for it.

Butter smooth.
30 year's of manual.
In my country it used to be almost impossible to get automatic and if you had one good luck to sale!
We get our driving license exam on a Manual. So if you make your gear grind you can go back for an extra 20 hours of teaching and register for next exam session.

Now a day's their are a few automatic specialy those double clutch stuff.

I love the 6MT in the 86.

Only gripe is that the shift from 6 to 4 can be a bit awkward.

Also on upshift it can be a bit noisy. Hearing a slight clank noise. But normal on a cheaper car.

When my car sits for a few days, especially when cold(ish), I can literally barely get it to go into 2nd. It will grind no matter how gentle and slow I am. Sometimes I can barely get it to go at all. I'm hoping it will improve after I swap the fluid. I'm just waiting to get all the initial wear particles out because the car is only at about 1200km right now. After warm though, it's pretty buttery for the most part.

I have to be very gentle with my 6th to 5th downshift or I'll get a rough grinding sound. Just started recently, currently running Redline in the trans and diff. Otherwise the gear box is great.
