I feel the poll should have had a 3rd option of ; not bad not great either
buttery smooth is not how I'd describe this box, I've driven a fair few transmisson types with more power than this and the shift was better on most of them interesting to see the comments about a a new shifter and weighted gearknob as I too feel its that area thats the issue - the weighted knob especially |

I've not personally had any real issues with mine. I feel like sixth is a little wonky, but I've never had any grinding issues in any gear.

when you say buttery smooth do you mean even into first gear and reverse? Because some of the time when 100% still from neutral into first it goes in 100% smoothly, and other times it has a notch, then goes fully into gear. |

A year and a half later from purchase its become butter smooth lately. It's probably because I've adapted to the shifting. I changed the tranny oil to motul a while back but it still felt notchy and clunky. 6 months or so later, smooth as butter.

My gearbox shifts beautifully in every gear. Nothing to complain about here. I've only ever grinded mine once from a miscalculated shift to 3rd. Cold weather is normal. This gearbox has been nothing but great.

I don't care how long people have driving manual transmissions. If you've been driving incorrectly all that time then you are by no means an expert. Complaining about something mechanical operating outside of normal parameters is asinine.

I've already written/posted plenty on this subject but I'll pile on some more. It's a very special gearbox designed specifically for this vehicle. Nothing is ever perfect. It's the 21st century. People choose a manual transmission on purpose, not to save money. Feeling its personality change as it warms up is part of the fun of being connected to the machine.
The fact that some lemons were, and will continue to be produced is just a fact of mass production. I got lucky. I got one of the good ones. If it decides to crap out in 50 Kmi, so be it. That's part of the experience. If you can't fix it yourself, suck it up and be thankful for the warranty. You bought a sports car. Welcome to the club. The expensive ones see just as much shop time as ours.

When it's cold out and the car hasnt fulled warmed up yet, 2nd gear is very notchy and sometimes grinds. Not sure if it's crappy fluid, or a clutch that doesnt fully disengage but it's quote annoying. I want to bring it to Subaru but I feel like they will just tell me it's normal.

Im not sure what you guys are talking about i just throw the shifter into D and press the paddle...
Oh this is for the manual!! Lol jk I will agree that any sort of clink, or knock, or grinding is due to driver error. This sports car was aimed at the 20 somethings and probably alot of peoples first sports car. Just because you cant drive the stick just right doesnt mean the car is shit

2, one for the shop (being repaired), and one to drive. And these are sports cars that cost 10X more than ours. We have it good, and inexpensive. Check out the price to do a clutch or brakes on a Ferrari or Porsche. All cars have issues even the best or most expensive (not the same) ones. |
