Finally a update
FRS had some issues. Water was getting into the taillight badly. I was out in the rain (we had a heavy rainstorm on the 16th) for around 12 hours and forgot to check my tails out that day but the next day I did and noticed really filled tails. Left light was half full of water while the right light had light water drops in the housings. Had to drop the car off at the dealership as Toyota themselves wanted to come and look at the lights. Was given a very very basic Corolla (such a downgrade) here are a few pics to update you guys. Having the stock tails again has given me some new found appreciation for how the look but will most likely red them out again. Also out of the break in stage and man it feels good. Having driven under 4k for so long the power is very refreshing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My patent pending way of not damaging my doors in my garage ![]()

![]() Sort of 'sketch' I made Friday. 6061-T6 bar manually turned and tapped (a completely wrong 1/2 UNC) on the lathe. Diameter is 1.125" and probably too small. And I can't find my damn proper tap... I had ordered one a few years ago to do some Toyota knobs but it seems to have disappeared when our shop moved.

Woah Dim that looks killer just a bit small. I really like shifter shaped like that. Looks great!

I actually drove to Whister and spent about 6 hours driving that day and was just back home letting her rest up a bit before I went to the Nightmarket. Damn looks good. Good size and looks like the weight will be pretty solid too. I bow to your skills. Actually I would love to hear more info about how welds and stuff are done on aftermarket stuff. I learned quite a bit reading your threads.

Here's a little something for you: The tube in the background of the knob pics is a start-stop welding practice my buddy was doing. Here's some more detailed pics of it: No flash: ![]() Flash: ![]() It's .120" wall, so ~twice as thick as exhaust tubing normally is (thicker is easier btw, so this isn't super awesome skills) and fused by TIG. Fused means no filler rod is added. He started and stopped about every inch. But if you look at the heat band it stays the same thickness since he is controlling the heat so the weld is the same from start to finish. Also each restart has pretty much the same heat, too. Good welders are all about consistency. The last pic is after is was polished with Scotchbrite, but no sanding to remove material. Scothbrited: ![]() Edit: It's 304 stainless steel.

Line looks very clean tho. Consistency in the welds is what I usually like to look for but you are right I noticed a lot of parts these days come plated so you can really tell
I got to learn how to weld and make my own parts it would make life much easier The last pic really shows how clean the weld is if that is without any sanding Are you like the senoir man Dim?
