Although I like manual, the auto is a proper sports car auto. It's very engaging and quick shifting. the only time it will deny a shift if it is a BAD idea to perform that shift, it's smart. That said, with all the nannies off, you can still blow your engine by manually downshifting via paddles (again, with nannies off, computers on and it won't let you do that).

I think the main reason everyone hates on the auto is because they geared it so differently. As mentioned above, a change of the rear diff gearing is an easy way to change the feel.

Auto's have come a long, long way. Even torque converter autos.

There have been many threads that turned into an Auto Vs. Manual debate on here BTW.

I think every car forum I've ever been on has had a requisite of at least 20 of these threads, lol. Or a once every month or two rule. (it seems like)

Very convenient if you need to open another beer in town or load the bong.

Driving manual is more rewarding IMHO. Driving a car with flappy paddles feels like I am playing a video game or something.

I'm sure you know in the back of your mind you know which one you want more, even if it's only by a little, go with that one.

if it was DCT or somethnig i wouldn't mind the auto.. but after driving an e92 and a R35 both auto... the FRS flappy pedals are very... flappy. manual is the only way to go in this car IMO but to each his own!

If you want an auto get one before they change to CVTs like everybody seems to be doing. At least the current auto has actual gears and shift points. The CVTs may be great fro mileage and emissions but they will suck every once of pleasure out of driving.

I'm not so sure that's the main reason why everyone hates on the auto.. going off of responses here alone, there is a stigma attached to an auto in a sportscar to many, and only one or two respondants even mentioned gearing.

True... but I still think some of it is that they see magazine reviews and online reviews that show that the auto is much slower 0-60 (because of gearing) and in their minds it reinforces their thinking of, "LOL auto SUCKS".

But if you're used to driving auto, then you'd be fine going either way. If you want a bit of a challenge, buy the manual. If you want more of the same, get the auto.
THIS! Same exact thing bought my first auto DSG GTI. Best auto I had ever driven, sold it after a year because I was bored out of my mind. Since then it's been manual all the way (except for my suv which the gf drives 90% of the time).

My question is what's the point of getting this car in auto?
If you want an auto car get a more refined sedan. My accord is a CVT because it's more friendly when i go to business meetings and better in traffic.

Also, in the long term, the auto will not be worth as much and will be a tough sell because once these cars get older mostly only car guys will be snatching them up for lower prices.
