I've always found it humorous when you get someone worried about shaving every last ounce from a vehicle but they don't have any issue with ordering the Super Sized fries with an Extra large shake when they go out for their mid-morning snack.

Point of example: Back when I first got into AutoX'ing my xA there was a guy who swapped a bunch of smaller items (Like the stock stereo) to save about 4 LBS. He proceeded to tell us that if we didn't do likewise we were putting ourselves at a disadvantage because our vehicles weighed more. Meanwhile this guy must have weighed at least 250 lbs and ate like a ravenous goat.

My point being yes, weight savings is a good thing, but you have to look at it as a % of the vehicles running weight with driver. If you weigh 250 lbs removing 4lbs is not going to have as much of an effect as the same weight reduction for someone who weighs 150 lbs. Or to quote someone else in that thread "You would shave more weight by going on a diet than getting rid of your Stock Headunit"

Anyways crimespree's comment about a "noticeable gain" made me remember that thread.
ummm not everyone... I lost 15 lbs once just to get a better power to weight ratio

I don't think this has been asked/mentioned yet about the 86 (nor, is it in this 'Weight Reduction' Sticky Thread yet)

When completely stripped/gutted (including carpet), is there a bunch of tar-like, stuck-on, sound deadening material on the floorboards??? (ex pics below)

When I had my old EG back in the day, I gutted the interior and I removed all of that sound deadening stuff. I remember, when all done, and all that stuff in a trash bag, it weighed a good amount... I think around +15lbs iirc.

It was also a PIA to remove, took a good few weeks, fcked up hands and broken skin on palms, etc. Of course, the weight savings and the much cleaner look was very awesome ...but because of the big hassle removing it, I didn't attempt it on my car after that (S13) and just left the interior in place.

Wondering if anyone as stripped/gutted their interior yet and also removed ALL the sound deadening material from the floors and have weighed it??

I know it appears pretty unassuming; but I am very sure it weighs a good amount when all the chips and pieces are in a bag.

It has been asked a few times in various places. It's hard to find though because I don't think there's a thread about it. Unfortunately/fortunately there isn't that much sound deadening in our cars compared to other cars. I think this has been discussed in my build thread. I definitely posted pictures somewhere round 'hyea.

You're right...the 86 defo has minimal sound deadening material

Here are photos of it in my car: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=227

They're still in there. I am going to take them out eventually though. That'll probably be one of the next 10 mods or so.

Ah..thanks. I saw them! Yes, the sound deadening material looks very simple (in both the cabin and trunk area) and minimal, especially compared to other cars..should be a breeze to remove.

First time seeing your build thread/journal...wow..you have some huevos! Insane build! I didn't mind doing that to my old EG or other old cars, or beater cars ..but, I don't have the balls to do it to a nice new 86 though. I guess I am just getting old and want a quiet DD these days lol. Commendable nonetheless

Some suggestions that might interest you:

-Get rid of that god awful tint! Tint ≠ Because Racecar! ...lol..tint is strictly for DD's and gangster lowriders whips imo...even on sedans. If I had a nice 4 door bmw, merc, lexus, etc, I wouldn't even tint it..just looks cheesy imo. Just my 2 cents.

-Spot weld all the body seams for chassis rigidity

-Replace oem windows with lexan for more reduction ...though, I don't know if this is legal for certain track, auto x, or roadrace competition rules.

Oh yes, I've considered and am hoping to do all of those suggestions. I'm going to leave the tint though. Why take it off when you're just going to replace the glass, you know? But that's still a good way away.

Which sensors did you remove (their locations)?
