You need to spend some time looking at components of water to air intercooler setups.

Think of each runner as a reservoir of air. Similar to an air compressor tank used to power pneumatic tools. Bigger tank means you get more capacity for consistent pressure. You'll have that higher pressure for a longer duration than a smaller tank, which means more boost all the way to redline. This is where turbo applications shine, because they have all that charge piping to account for. The downside is, the bigger the reservoir, the longer it takes to fill. Hence, turbo lag. Longer runners also helps in certain NA applications as well. Bottom line is, intake manifold design cannot be generalized by runner length alone. There are plenty of subtle details an phenomena that are impossible to model with even today's most sophisticated CFD programs. Sometimes it just takes brute force trial and error to get the best results. We're talking about a company that was founded on intake manifold design nearly 80 years ago! Edelbrock really knows their shit when it comes to intake manifolds and cannot even be compared to these newer companies, some which have never even designed an aluminum casting, let alone an intake manifold. |

aah yes but there's still a correct length for 7000rpm on this engine which is the about where the stock manifold leg length is go much shorter than this and you then need to rev to 8500 + to reach peak power below that speed you're not operating at peak volumetric efficency and so need more boost than you would otherwise to reach your goal |

Wow, been awfully quiet in here lately... @FuzzyFunk did they figure out what was up with your bad fuel economy? Was is an auto specific problem?

It's the power enrichment threshold I was told. Should be addressed when I return it to them later this month for the emissions test. Other than that everything has been running perfectly fine
love the power and torque down under.

During the factory tour, they mentioned they were aiming for a late Sept release, but after the fuel economy issue, I'm guessing they are trying to make final tweaks to the tuning before release. Its much more critical for such a large company like Edelbrock to get it right the first time around instead of having to do a bunch of updates. |
