Hardly used. Yes and no...dealer sold it and the guy couldn't come up with the down payment he promised so I got it with 238 miles on it and the dealer labeled it as new  but it also made the loan better and I got the warranty the guy paid for lol.
I don't think it's an installation from him because the wiring just seems...Idk original I guess, but who knows. I want to trace the wiring but it goes up towards the steering wheel so I would need to remove stuff and I don't care to until I have a better reason.
Too bad it's not the illumination kit. I was a little disappointed the series.blue didn't come with it but it does have blue stitching and seats etc. I even emailed Subaru and asked for a free one lol

Could it be one of those trackers that dealerships install on leased or financed cars so they can repossess them if necessary?

I doubt it considering it is highly illegal. I think the dealership is full of it, it clearly looks like an aftermarket security system.

It isn't illegal if it's written into the documents that you signed without reading, and plenty of dealers actually do this. I agree that's probably not what it is, but it very well could be!

It is perfectly legal if installed by a dealer. Fine print in the contract would explain this.

At-risk buyers are now given more options because the banks are requiring that dealers install tracking systems similar to lo-jack. In the event the buyer misses a payment or falls behind, the vehicle can be remotely disabled. This makes it MUCH easier to recover the asset in the event a buyer defaults on their obligation to repay the debt.

Oh, FWIW I would request that the device be removed, if you signed nothing stating that a GPS tracker would be installed. It may very well have been installed for the previous purchaser that failed to come up with a down payment.

The above is just an example of what the box likely is. I would prefer them NOT knowing my driving habits and location at all times.

Or maybe I can wait and then sue them/settle out of court for millions for invading my privacy and shitting on my constitutional rights...or something

If it is a GPS tracker...

I know you are being sarcastic, but if I were you, I'd take it into them, demand to see your sales contract, and if its not listed in there, demand the removal of the device and threaten lawsuit if they refuse (although I don't see why they would argue)

Could it be part of the LoJack theft recovery system? The dealer tried to upsell me on it when picking up my new car, I opted out though. Apparently when purchased, the company hides the sensor in one of several "random locations" to deter criminals from finding/ removing them... That seems to be the most likely explanation. Maybe the previous owner had the system installed, which isn't uncommon, then the dealer forgot to mention it the second time around. If that's the case, it's used by the police for tracking purposes in the event of a stolen vehicle, not to locate owners who miss a payment.

I just read a thread in my local forum about something similar, I believe its an upgraded KARR alarm the dealer tries to sell with the car. Im not sure why they leave it in the car but its possible it was a mistake and just isnt activated.
