I'm no content expert so take my words for what they are worth: my $0.02. There are works in progress that the brainchild is looking at the power levels/gains of today's cars and mods. The breakdown of the points as you see it now are still being dissected. So for the moment, use it as informational-purposes only.

E85 is a potent power adder. Easily tune-able by user or by Pro, it's been proven to provide hp that the user can and will utilize with a simple flash of the ECU. Do you think an E85-user can do the same track times on pump gas. Notice last season's E85 point is only 0.50 vs now at 1.0 - it really works and there's more people on it. An FI is effective but it also takes more hardware/software to utilize it.

Ultimately you won't find me lobbying for changes but it is helpful for everyone if this stuff is sorted early on.
I'm sure the powers at be is working on it. Luckily for NorCal, we have our schedules set, most of the new rules defined, and people are preparing/signing up for events

I think that what AyJay is asking about is the difference in effect E85 would have on an NA car vs the effect it would have on an FI car.

A = Laptime of an NA car.
B = Laptime of same NA car using E85.

C = Laptime of an FI car.
D = Laptime of same FI car using E85.

E = 1.00 the value assigned to the E85 tune by the proposed 86CUP2015 rules, which is meant to represent the time reduced by a particular mod.

Does A-B= E and does C-D = E ? I think AyJay suggests that (A-B) < (C-D)
and that therefore perhaps there should be different values given to E depending on whether the car is NA or FI. However not sure to what extent that difference is already handled by the 2.5 point value for any FI mod. Remember there is also a practical assumption that everyone by default is running 100 oct fuel?

There are alternates for indirectly compensating for E85. An example of this is the clutch points. You only need a clutch if you are making over ~250wtq. Whether you do this with E85 or not doesn't matter; the actual result is that more power output is properly penalized.

However, the clutch points are low enough that a NA car with a clutch will not get killed on points.

If you don't like what Motor Trend says, let me know. Ed Loh (the EIC) is a good friend of mine.

He keeps talking about meat and surfing and nothing about cars when he rambles on Facebook.

the NCRC calculator appears to be broken at the moment.

even when it was working though, hitting save to send an email of your mods list wasn't working properly. it would email me a link back to the NCRC page not a list of the mods, which is not in itself wrong, but I think changes to the form made subsequent to my saving broke it/gave incorrect listings. I think it would have worked better delivering a static list of mods with calculations, not linking back to a dynamic site that is still in flux. my .02 ...

Bump this. 2015 dates are the same as NCRC's Chrono Days plus the Sept weekend at BW. Will be posted up soon.

So an interesting thing I noticed the other day is that Thunderhill's published calendar has events for NCRC that are not listed on the NCRC website. Any idea which is more correct?

I find it interesting there's no Chrono for May 23-24's Laguna Seca. There is ARC group though. I'm sure a lot of us will be there. I know I will be there for at least one of those days.

In terms of the 86Cup, rules and schedule should be posted up soon. NorCal's 2015 begins with a weekend at Thill on March 21/22.

Quoted from the 2015 thread outta the the track subforum:
Quote:
**S2000 Addendum**
Discussion is being held for a cross-over event with the AP1/AP2 chassis. Currently, the belief is that the S2000 platform performs at a level "one class higher" than the FRS/BRZ/AE86.

This is interesting if NorCal adopts it too

I think it makes more sense down there since there is a lot of crossover with the S2k challenge series. Dont think anything like that operates up here
