I work in the ER... that's an odd injury. You must have come down perfectly on your toes and had a force transfer like we see with metacarpal fractures, which are often called boxer fractures, or perhaps someone landed with their cleat right on the top of your foot like a stomp injury. Regardless, that is rare. They should recover well though.

I finally got around to swapping my slave cylinder. I recently discovered my clutch line had a tiny leak at at the crimp (59k miles). Not enough to drip, but enough that I could wipe it off the hose. That and the gritty-feeling clutch pedal convinced me it was time. I am so glad I finally had the balls for it. I'm terrified of brake fluid and was VERY OCD covering everything with plastic bags and towels. Turns out I didn't even need to since I didn't even spill a drop, but better safe than sorry.

If there was some kind of award for most helpful thread on the forums, I would nominate this one. I had already done the clutch assist spring removal and loved the feeling of the clutch once it was removed, but something still wasn't quite right. Now that this thing has been swapped and clutch pedal has been adjusted, I have a HUGE smile on my face when driving. No more doubting the clutch. Every shift feels PERFECT!

My only concerns were the clip that holds the soft line where the hard/soft lines meet. Since I upgraded the line to an MTEC stainless one, there was a bit more play in that area, enough for the clip to fall out. How important is that clip? I'm assuming it was just to keep the hard line from vibrating too much under the hood. I'll be doing that tonight.

I also applied a bit of grease on the tip of the slave cylinder (forgot the name of the piece). Was I supposed to apply grease under the boot as well? It seemed a bit dry, I could only spot a tiny bit of grease. Edit: I just went back a few pages on this thread and saw that we should be lubricating under the boot.

On another note, my slave cylinder was pretty much shot. The spring felt really grindy and whatever grease was there looked like it was melted on and no longer providing any lubrication.

Thanks a million to everyone who contributed to this thread, the clutch hose replacement, and the clutch pedal adjustment thread. This is how the car should have felt out of the factory.

Unfortunately, that gritty feeling comes from the TOB binding on the quill. Sucks but I've resorted to dropping my transmission every summer to clean and re-lube the parts. Tried a new grease this last time. Fingers crossed.


Yeah, that clip is to support the hard line. It's important to support because vibration=metal fatigue in the long run. Not an immediate cause for concern.

Same part number 900061 but it's from "Perfect Clutch" instead of Duralast but still cross-references the OE part number 30620AA111.

I bought a 30620AA111 from the dealership for $85. I wanted the OEM label.

i need to remember to do this eventually. i've gotten used to the twin's weird clutch engagement point but i still hate it.
