Yep. Android doesn't like having a ton of text messages either. Try deleting a few thousand at a time and see how long it takes (mine took all night with an app).

Even then it's hit or miss, but I don't really use the car integration for texts...

Mine did the obnoxious repeated message transfer thing too. I turned bluetooth off for a few days and now it never transfer messages? At least the bluetooth on my new phone automatically acknowledges the headunit's request for a connection. My old phone asked me every time I got in the car if I wanted to connect. The bluetooth connection system in this car is pretty lame, but at least it transfers the phonebook automatically.

I even gave up listening to music through bluetooth on my HTC One because when I would receive a text message it would disconnect the phone from the HU 9 times out of 10.

Plugged in through Aux has better sound quality anyway..

It works well with Windows Phone too. I think that is probably because of Cortana. My Note 4 does the same thing as the OP. Haven't had it do it in a while though. I miss my Windows Phone but their phone offerings suck. Cortana beats Siri and Google Now like Muhammad Ali beat Joe Frazier.
