Man, i wonder if you could redo the garage. You could take the counter on the side away and make the back wall the work space-- giving you more room and uniformity..

Sure, given enough time and money, anything's possible. But I've spent a couple of years getting it to this point and it's pretty usable. The back wall has a couple of cabinets, a shelf that a rolling table and tool chest tuck under, and storage for a couple of sets of tires. There just isn't enough space along the back wall for storage and work space. The walls and rafters can't support any more weight without reinforcement. The perimeter space is pretty densely packed. So I can either live with cramped quarters and a work space, or get rid of the work space. I'll take the latter.
