If I get ticketed, 24 hours after the write off, they will be back to the way they were.

So I pull over, and roll my windows down. Then they approach my car and shine flashlights into my car... I'm like "did I do something wrong?" He said "No," and asked for my license, reg and insurance. So I asked him what's this all about. "We stopped you because you have tinted windows." I said, "what's wrong with my tinted windows?" He said that in Cali "you're not allowed to have tint." Told him that I read online recently that we're allowed to have 30% tint and limo tint in the back. He said that that's not true. Then he said he's gonna let me off with a warning for that... While I was talking to him, the 2nd officer was on the right side of my car, shining his flashlight and checking my rear seats, etc. I asked him what's up with the flashlights? Then he responded with, "You know about the shootings that took place at ______?" I said that I had no idea, and didn't know the place. He then asked me if I knew about Wa Ching and VBoyz. I said that I'd heard of them, but dont know anything about them. He said well, there was a shooting and we're out here helping the local police department.

So basically, I got stopped for my tinted windows...probably in addition to being tinted windows on a japanese car...and the fact that I just left a boba place prolly meant that I'm asian, lol.

Did I get racially profiled???!??

I've always had tint on my front windows, and I have never been hassled.

Tint by itself is rarely something that will get you a ticket. It is usually used as a reason for police to check you and your car out
for other issues. Don't have super loud exhausts or racing stickers all over your car and most police won't bat an eye at you.

You have tinting options:

1) Get the lightest tint available all around (including the front windows) to block uv rays and help keep the interior a bit cooler...No cop will hassle you for light tint.

2) Get the darkest tint available on all the other windows, and medium tint on the front windows (The contrast between the windows will make the front
windows seem lighter) Just try and roll your front windows down if you're cruising in cop-infested areas like Sunset, Old Town Pasadena, airports, and The Block.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. However, I've read everywhere that the law is 70% front side windows...any darkness on the sides and back window. Is this not the case? Here are a few articles:

Article 1
Article 2
Article 3

...etc...

Is this not true? Either way, I plan to tint my windows the way I want.

most film companies do have a CA LEGAL tint which varies from 70-80%VLT now

but to make such a light film effective they have to use better technology films such a ceramic or carbon sputtered film. it gets expensive because the material costs more and the film can be harder to work with for some installers.

the ceramic/carbon films are clear but you still get the full UV a/b protection with pretty high heat rejection that compares to a regular dark/limo tint. so basically getting all the benefits of dark/limo tint without the look.

i have a 43% ceramic tint with a 76% ceramic film on my windshield. very light and the front windshield looks perfectly clear but blocks 40% of heat.

people think tint is for looks but its really more for the UV protection that keeps you from getting cancer and to keep your dash and interior from fading and cracking. The extra benefits include the heat rejection and looks.
