ok....KW's are ON...OMG...it is a sexy beast and man is it 'PLANTED'..... There is at least an inch of clearance between the tire and the Strut... sooo Camber isn't going to be an issue...AT ALL.. will easily fit 265's..if needed... So...STX...STR.....BRING IT...Its amazing how much Decent suspension does to a car...Installation...I give a 6...the front was no problem..however the ABS and Brake line is routed kinda funky..but I adapted and overcame the Rear.. was a bit more stubborn...but I got it...finally.. Stock 14mm rear sway is on now..with Kartboy links..running Recommended settings for now.. went on a short 'test' drive... I can't wait to get this thing on the course now......I LOVE the KW's...easy to tune... and pretty easy to adjust....I was going to have an event tomorrow but I didn't get to the alignment ...so Monday after work...then I also need to corner weight it.....so far...I am absolutely Beyond pleased with the KW's...They Got it right....On to the pics..

Stock Front Strut assembly....12.6 lbs...
KW Front Strut assembly... 12.9 lbs...

Fronts.... adjusting the ride height..

Front ...After adjustment...about a 1 inch gap between the top of the tire and fender... Coool thing of note...All 4 fenders are Factory Rolled..so nooo issue whatsoever with fitment...

Obligatory Side shot..

and...the Side Profile shot...soooo Sexy..

Can't wait for Cent Divs Next week in Milwaukee.... running up our good buddy Neal Tovsen...and his wife in STX...should be interesting.. ...we'll see how it does against a well prepped Bimmer..

More later

Car looks bad ass on the KWs!

I appreciate all the photos, Scoob. I've been considering 245/40's on 17x8 +44 when I get my FR-S, and according to your photos/info, it looks like that will fit just fine.

Completely stock alignment and suspension - no rubbing whatsoever, even under autocross loads. No rubbing at full lock in any condition, either.

This is what I have heard.

On some VW enthusiast websites the comment was;

"friends don't let friends buy Rotas". Followed by a picture of a failed Rota Wheel.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase and I hope I am wrong about the quality of Rota wheels, but I post this to just make people aware there are differing opinions.

Any wheel can break... What's important is to look into HOW the wheel broke, and under what conditions.

I found a set of used 17x9 rotas locally but they are et35, would that offset kill running wide tires on this car?

I am debating the same. I was thinking about running 235/40/17 tires on 17x9 +35 wheels. Lowered It might rub... I keep flipping from picture to picture thinking if an extra 7mm towards the fender will work with some camber, and a little bit smaller of a tire..

I'm not interested in running smaller (narrower) tires. I ended up just ordering 17x9 et42. I figured just buy correct fitment and I'm sure I'll be happy I spent the cash to do so.

Contrary to your name, smaller tires would have a smaller limit...

LOL about name thing.

If this car had a lot of power (300whp+) I would be putting at least 245 or 255's on it. All of my friends and customers that we go to the race track with, have big power cars, save for one Lotus Elise, which has the weight advantage. I am going to be doing whatever I can to keep up.

Methods to my madness:

1. Wedssport TC105's only come in 17x8 +42 or 17x9 +35. I am not running an 8 in the rear, and I do not want a staggered setup. I love this wheel. This is my biggest reason.

2. A 235/40 is 2lbs per tire lighter (Dunlop Star Spec) than a 245/40, which is significant on a car with not a lot of power. The trade off for this is only .2 inches in tire sectional width versus the other. I think a sticky 235/40 is going to give this car all the grip it needs, and the added weight + cost of the 245/40 isn't worth it.

3. A 235/40 is .2 inches shorter than stock size tire, a 245/40 is .1 inches taller than stock. This should make the car accelerate a BIT faster on the low end, although giving up a bit up top. This is a minor reason.

4. Fitment. In my case of fitting a 17x9 +35 on the front, a 235 is going to have less of a chance rubbing than a 245.

Sorry for my rant, but I have given a lot of thought into this, and wanted to share my opinion with the community. Hopefully sooner than later I can back up my opinion with experience.

Lastly I am sure the 17x9 +42 with 245/40 is an awesome setup as well, with tons of grip.

Adam

I agree to a certain extent, there are some advantages to a slightly narrower tire... but wider tire = more friction. I want more friction. It sounds like you are mostly boxed in by the wheel you really want having a really close, but not ideal fit.

I just remember when I had my STX prepped GTI I noticed a decent difference going up to 245 from 235. Once I get coils I plan to bump it up to 255.

What did you do about the TPMS for the new wheels? Did you buy sensors or use the stock ones or neither?

I have to ask the obvious here, are you really going to be faster than a stock car with R compound or RS3 with an alignment with a good driver?

I saw this all the time with the S2000 people would dump $$$ in suspension wheels and were so often slower than a good driver with a mostly stock car.

Waiting for results on this. No offense.

Oh just noticed you are in WI you have any autox left up there? I'd like to meet up and see the difference.
