The thing I like about STX is there is lots of room to mod the car over time, so for instance when I added the RCE yellow springs & Koni shocks I don't have to change classes and loose season points. Later if I do a cold air intake or get a tune - same thing, I can keep going in STX.

On the wheel related front, I will say that I bought inexpensive wheels because I liked the style and fit with a more aggressive offset, but if I had it to do over I would have waited until I could afford to buy something lighter weight. It was a noticeable difference in handling with the heavier wheel/tire combo, and even though I like the increase in overall grip, I miss the lighter feel.

Check out tsscc.org if you are looking for a few more events to squeeze in this year.
Thanks, Tim! Good to know that I can be competitive in STX in our region without doing a whole lot to the car, and then mod as I see fit without screwing up my season. Wheels and tires aren't a huge deal to me, I can swing that financially and I can actually get a set of nice coilovers (SACHS) for a very good deal in time. So I may just pick up wider wheels (likely RPF1s), tires, and camber bolts over winter and see how I do in STX.

I actually remember talking to you at the WCMC autox a couple months ago and I saw you at the Rt.66 Raceway solo this past weekend. I was in the Firestorm FR-S that was drifting the whole time. Still on Primacy's

I'll definitely do some of the TSSCC events. I know I'm definitely doing one of their driving schools next year because I need to get some more seat time and instruction before running in LeMons at Gingerman.

Personally I think folks buy the Strano bar just for the reason of it is the Strano Bar.

I went Whiteline and would always go Whiteline due to the quality of the product and the correct fitment out of the box.

If you search up the Strano bar it's Fitment has been an issue. I personally know a guy who used one on his STX build that had to grind down the ends of the bar for correct fitment as it rubbed on the front control arms when installed.

As for STX or CS? CS will be cheaper for local competition, however if you go nationally it may cost you almost as much or more in suspension as STX. STX will however turn you car into something way more fun for everyday use except maybe winter. A competitive STX prep on the cheap will cost you about $4500. Mainly 17x9's tires, some coilovers and some power adders.

Oh and also if you want to gauge yourself vs the competition you can always come and race in Milwaukee where we have some STX prepped BRZ's.

Yeah, it's sounding like STX might actually be the way I'll go. I plan on getting a used set of 17x9 RPF1s (there are plenty of deals out there), Direzza ZIIs, and (like I said above) I can actually get a fantastic deal on SACHS coilovers; pretty much getting KW V3 quality/level coilovers for the price of Stance or BCs. Plus, I like the idea of being able to modify my car as I go along without worrying about jumping up a class.

I'm fairly close to the WI border, so I may come run some events up there too. BTW, are you going on the cruise through Kettle Moraine this Sunday?

That was a crazy fast, fun course Sunday! I can't imagine trying to keep the rear end behind the front end on the stock Primacy's. Kudo's to you for not still being in a flat spin headed out to sea!

Yeah I didn't do a great job of keeping the rear end in line, but I am proud of myself for not spinning. haha

The Sachs sound good i would be curious to check them out if you get them.

As for the Cruise I will not be attending due to a double header Saturday/Sunday Autocross event up here at Miller Park with WAI. www.waiautox.org

Yeah, I'm pretty confident I will be the only Toyobaru in the U.S. with them, and one of very few in the world since I've only heard of them on the SACHS GT86 demo car in Germany and one GT86 in Japan running them.

If you want to talk about nationally, keep in mind that STX is a very large pond full of very mean fish with very big pointy teeth. Not to say that CS isn't a tough class, but if you've got the skills to be competitive in STX nationally then I don't think a set of shocks is going to be your limiting factor in CS

Lol I don't expect to be competing on a national level... not yet at least. Next year will be my first full season. I think I will run in STX so that I can do the things to my car that I want to over time without having to worry about breaking into a new class mid-season.

I know I finished out in 7th in 2013 with a very light prep at Nationals in a softer STX field and my car took 3rd this year and I finished 12th in a much more competitive STX field ( we also had the car further prepped with a better suspension setup and more power than the prior year too).

It isn't 100% about the parts but how they are used does play a key factor.

I had similar worries about what to run and ultimately decided that I'd just modify the car as I liked and drive whatever class I end up in. I'm not going to be regionally or nationally competitive; I just want to have fun. So, I got my FR-S with TRD exhaust, drop in filter, and sways on PF01 17x8 wheels. That puts me in STX but...

Better add about 5k to that for a fully prepped STX car. Luckily I have some sponsorship help, but If I didn't it would have cost me about 15k to pay full Retail for everything. I can make a list if you want. 8k will get you a good Regional Car and somewhat limited National Level car.
I have 3 set of wheels w/tires for varying conditions. Lightweight everything.. Seats/Battery/weight reduction... Engine Management/tune/dyno.. Headers/Exhaust.... Bushings/Control arms/various Suspension Pieces...Rear Mechanical LSD... and Suspension/coilovers/swaybars...then dyno time and alignment time.. all adds up.
