I did an interesting comparison a few months ago - comparing my min (corner) and max (straight) speeds for RSR vs Jacques, and it highlighted my opportunities.
It makes a big difference if you know that something is possible, and you should be able to do it - then you just have to grow bigger goolies and make it happen

So here's my min and max speeds for 4 similar laps at the Z taken from my data logs on Sunday.
If you wish to compare, I'm sure you'll have some very interesting observations...

Lap Times = 1:17.06/1:17.13/1:17.00/1:17.29

Max T8->T1 (3rd) = 135/134/136/133
Min T1 (3rd) = 114/114/115/116
Max T1->T2 (3rd) = 134/132/135/134
Min T2 (2nd) = 53/55/57/57
Max T2->T4 (4th) = 166/162/166/165
Min T4 (4th) = 116/112/114/112
Max T4->T5 (4th) = 151/151/148/150
Min T5 (2nd) = 70/68/69/71
Max T5->T6 (2nd->3rd) = 96/95/97/93
Min T6 (3rd) = 76/76/79/77
Max T6->T8 (3rd) = 136/137/136/137
Min T8 (3rd) = 74/73/75/78

6 gear changes / lap

Looks like you have room for improvement for T1 and T4, if you are willing
With these speeds I can see the difference the SC makes on the straights

Thanks for your comments.

Your observation about T1 is 100% right. It's an awkward turn and I just need to get braver.
See pic below, I'm only getting to a max of 0.9G and that's not good enough.

However, T4 shows that I'm doing 1.1G there, and that's about my maximum, so my only opportunity there is a better line through the turn.

Did you pick up on anything of interest for you?

Yeah, if I had to compare my speeds to yours I'm probably 10km/h slower,not so much on the slower corners, but definitively on the faster sections. Pushing any harder is risky for me because I can already feel under steer on T1 and T4 but I can also improve on my lines that's for sure.

I made a video of my quickest lap on the 1st Nov (1m17.00) - well, sort of...

My cheapo video cam overheated in the sun, so I didn't get a video of my actual fastest lap, but I did get a good data log.
I found a suitable video of an earlier but slower lap, and cranked it a bit (by 1.9%) to match the data log.
I think the result came out OK'ish.

The lap time, speedo, and G-forces come from the data log, so they're 100% genuine.
The video and sound have a little bit of turbo-boost

So I was messing around yesterday with a new video editing software,

And made this short video compilation using video footage from past events that forum members posted,

[ame]http://youtu.be/X5zwcn13O0s[/ame]

Hope this creates some excitement for a Track day in December

It would be great to have a Gauteng Track day outing with 86 company,

Any track days that you have planned for December 2015?

RedStar? Midvaal? Zwartkops?

Red Star is having a cars track day on Sunday 29 Nov, so I think I'll go to that one. I put it up on FB an hour ago, and there seems to be many folks interested.

Nice video, and thanks for including a bit of my video.

Redstar on the 29th sounds great,

I am fitting Front PB Discs this weekend,

Need to contact PB to find out the process for new discs (If I need to bed them in with old pads), hopefully will be ready by then.

I was looking through some old threads and found this post of mine from March this year. Wow, it seems so long ago.

My goal then was to better the times of that SC 350Z (1m18.4) and Ferrari 360 (1m18.5).
That seemed like a reasonable challenge 8 months ago, but now I can comfortably run 1m17.0 at the Z and probably better if I pushed a bit.
So 1m18.4 is like... yawn

I reckon that's thanks to Red Star, which has provided me with the safe environment to confidently push the bubble and learn that my car's limits are way beyond what I thought. Makes me wonder how much more there still is to discover.

Im looking forward to Redstar with Traction control off,
(To improve cornering skill)

On my last track outing at Zwartkops on 1/11/2015 , was the first time I tried to drive with Traction control off...

This experiment led to skid marks ...on my seat!

Lesson learnt,

(Luckily this was at the end of one of the sessions, and there wasn't cars around),

I shat myself funny!

Just shows how important it is to be alert at all times,

Also driving flat out with TC off on Zwartkops like a 16 year old is not a good idea if you do not have experience

Edit: Looking back that should have been a warning from the Marshall,

I drove the rest of the day with TC off, but was very careful at TableTop and made sure my lines where better around those corners.
Didn't slide or loose control on other laps.

That was very well controlled, you didnt over compensate and it LOOKED like you stayed calm. I dont think that should have been a "black flag", I think you need moments like that to lean and understand the dynamics of your car.

As long as you are "learning" with no other cars around then I dont see anything wrong with that.

Good driving man, you are a natural.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what caused the initial loss of control,

This was the first session I tried with TC OFF,

But it was on my last lap of that session... before my cool down lap,

So could have been a slight lack of concentration(due to fatigue - was bloody hot on that day) that resulted in taking the wrong line/ wrong acceleration point = over steer,

Bring it back was probably a combination of a little Skidpan experience + Good seating position which I learnt on this forum
