I was thinking the same on the day. The drivers of "certain types of vehicles" didn't do anything to change the stereotypical view of themselves.

I can only imagine what the "certain types of vehicles" owners track days are like

Wow group A looks busy!

In the first video it was only when you passed the audi s3 did you have a clear way and drove brilliantly but you had to cool down towards the end of the lap.

As for the BMW driver's in the second video, agree with @LostSalad there lol they brought their daily driving habits to the track

Feedback on driving position,

Pulled my seat front and upright while driving back from work today,

Feels compact

and did a few "U" turns with traction control off, and was able to control the steering,(It just slides through your hand), and understand what you guys mean.

SuperTrax 20/09/2015

Despite the dull / cloudy South African atmosphere ...
(Following our opening match at the RWC against Japan )

...Was a good day out at Zwartkops

Here is some action from the skidpan and track,

Saw a handful of new 86's and BRZ's at the skid pan,
(Surprisingly allot of BRZee's!)
Which is always good to see!

I'm bad and antisocial and didn't go past the skidpan because the track sessions were flying by and I didn't want to miss anything. Also I think as soon as I get to the skidpan instinct will kick in and I'll go make a nice sideways mess all over my car again . Hopefully next time I'll see you and say hi.

As for the left foot braking.... have you done it before? Or did you spazz out and put your head in the steering wheel with a heavy left foot . The first time I ever tried, I was like ok... ok... here goes... and bam I hit the clutch instead of the brake pedal, like a BAUS

Hahahaha. I dont have ABS so a quick stab of the brake with the left foot helps you initiate more controlled in the wet.

I have done it before but its best to practice while doing manji drifts.

Yeah. I just love seeing so many 86s & BRZs at the track.

Im hoping to join at the next meet up.

Here's my fastest lap of the day: 1:22.6.

I see I apexed turn 1 at an average of about 110 kmh throughout the day, but later figured that I could apex at about 120 kmh on my new tyres o.O. There is definitely still time to be gained lol. This was checking the speedo, and I'm not sure if the video uses the speedo or GPS. I also didn't brake as late / hard as I could have because I didn't want to have a repeat of last time.

@Fish Eagle, if you have any specific feedback, I'd love to hear it

Looking good, well done!!

Your data log is from the ECU. If you've got revs, throttle, etc then it's ECU. When the speed comes from GPS it's obvious because it has a slight lag, and it's not smooth. I'd suggest limiting your speedo to 160 for Zwartkops then it'll be easier to read. You can set that in RaceRender.

I'm not a Zwartkops expert, but to me your driving looks smooth, your lines look fine, and your times are good. Well done.

Your RE002's are a noisy tyre and that can help you a lot in understanding what they're doing. When they're squealing then they're working. No squeal means you can push them a bit harder. Also, as the squeal intensifies that signals that you're getting to the limit and need to back off a bit. Use the squeal to learn because you won't always have it - it's only RE002's that are that noisy. I really have to abuse my RE11S's before they make any noise at all...

The only constructive criticism I can offer is - listen to the tyre squeal in your video. Your loudest squeal is in turn 8 onto the pit straight which is the most dangerous corner on the track, and you should be taking that the easiest Go figure...

However, I think you can safely push it a bit harder in the slower corners (T2, T5 and T6), and especially try to get onto the gas a bit quicker. It takes bravery to put your foot flat in the corner, but if your tyres are hot, and you feed the power in to get proper weight transfer, they should stick.

Here's an example of what I mean. Notice that I've got foot flat in 2nd before the apex. Try it, but be careful...

Small world, but I actually met Apex Strider at the rock a while back. He has some great drifting skills with his 200SX. I am really interested to hear your feedback once you start playing with your 86.

This is great feedback. Whenever the tyres squeal I feel like I'm asking too much. So I'll try gas it a bit faster next time and see (or hear) what happens. Near the end of the day I felt that as I was cornering, I could add more steering input and the car would still respond - so there is definitely more grip to play with.

I see what you mean - and I did actually get a wiggle in the rear on some laps. Good thing I'm not a hero with the TC switched off . Nailing that corner just feels so good though.

Awesome! I'll definitely try this. Maybe just not when someone is right behind me...

I find on T4 this makes a huge difference. But obviously that's a bit scarier due to being a fast corner... But this small engine needs all the help it can get on the uphill, and conserving momentum through that corner can make a big difference. That's why this car is so great to learn in! If I had massive amounts of torque to just blast me up the hill I'd be learning nothing...

I also tried powering out of T1 a bit harder because I usually don't track out very wide. It's quite easy to follow the turn and end up nearer to the center of the track approaching the hairpin and you can see me do it at the end of the video on my next lap. Once again, I'm glad I don't turn the TC off . Feeling a wiggle and seeing the TC kick in at the edge of the track is pretty scary.

So I'm kind of driving at the point now where I'm sitting at my limits. Pushing a bit harder to maximise the cars capabilities is going to have to be a careful exercise. Thanks for the advices -- I'll definitely have to talk down my ego before starting to implement anything. It's easy to get caught up in the fun.

FIXED

I still recommend having TC on at the Z, but you must try to not get into the bad habit of relying on it.

On the 30th at Red Star (where there's precious little to hit if you make a mistake), you want to put your TC off and experiment with different techniques and pushing it a bit harder. Try slinging the car around some more and especially try hard trail-braking which involves learning the balance between braking and turning in at the same time (which our cars do exceptionally well).

I'm going to be experimenting with double-apexing some corners at Red Star and you might want to try that too. Double-apexing has worked well for me at Midvaal in T8 but it took me a long time to get it right because it's opposite to what instinct says one should do, and it takes bravery. I've also found that I keep drifting back into normal lines unless I consciously think about double-apexing.

Despite the heat warnings in Gauteng this week ...Allot of 86's and BRZ's showed up to the SuperTrax today.

Was good catching up and meeting new faces,

Here's a highlight video of my day, one of my mates surprised me so took him to the skid pan (which I hate doing coz I am terrible at Gymkhana) but was good spinning out and just messing around.
