They aren't exactly fuel efficient. We have CAFE standards as do many other countries.

I was reading an article about 2-3 months ago about Mazda giving a press release that the rotory isnt dead to them so I think we will see another RX. 2017 will be the rotor's 50th aniversary, so the 16X will probably have some major debut then.

Yeah it's alive alright.

I'm sure they could build a low-numbers all out sports car too expensive for a regular consumer to buy for marketing reasons. But in the end, they are in the business of making money and the miata is the mvp.

RnD for engines can be developed for multiple platforms and technologies can be borrowed(copied) from other engines and manufacturers. But when you are the sole developer of an rotary engine that will only be used on one car... it is not money well spent and gets put on the back burner or in deep freeze.

I like the new look. I'm sure there will be some company somewhere who will make the conversion kit to convert the top to removable type top.

Since the RX-? is primarily a marketing tool, they could just take the engine development costs out of the marketing budget.

The marketing guys would need to scale back on the hookers and blow for a quarter or two and it would all be good.

Yeah, I meant like the older 964/996/etc where the car is basically just a fixed roof coupe with a big sunroof.
