Damn...not a good time to be a Miata owner.

Miatas were never really good looking cars, but nor were they ugly...

I feel like I've seen that before a long time ago...yes, it makes me want to barf.

But reading the story, I found this funny:
"Pressure for more power from overseas markets (especially the U.S.) forced Mazda to fit a 160-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit in 2005, something chief engineer Takao Kijima reportedly did not want to do."

Oh no, the big bad 'muricans want a bigger engine! We had to put a 160hp 2.0L engine in! Screw them! Maybe if your 1.8L wasn't such a turd you wouldn't have to do that. 140hp is how much power Toyota and Honda's off the shelf run of the mill cheapo engines make.

Anyways, I like that they're trying to downsize with the 1.5L Skyactiv, but tuners are going to be unhappy because if the 1.5L Skyactiv is anything like their already existing Skyactiv engines, 125hp is probably about as much power as the engine will ever make thanks to an ultra long stroke.

Ugly or not, if it actually weighs 2100lbs., it will be a blast to drive.

Kei car anyone?! Not a big fan of the render; however, until I see it in the flesh I won't judge too much.

Motor Trend is a little slow. That picture has been around for a long time. I forget when I first saw it but it was over a year ago.

You know, I wonder why car manufacturers can't just go back to the old Honda S2000 or 2000-2002 MR2 Spyder front bumper...a simple, appropriately sized rectangular opening in a plain bumper that tapers out to the sides. Nowadays they can't seem to get enough of random chrome and plastic bars over giant gaping holes.

This.

My gf wants to buy the new miata when she graduates. This motherfucker better not look like this. Make the miata a tad more masculine so that I'll feel comfortable having it parked in front of my condo... VW did it with the Beetle, I'm sure Mazda knows that most Miata drivers are male.
