bumping this thread, I want to see if anybody else has good results with Dr. Colorchip.

I'm thinking of using this technique on the front bumper: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZVs6-8Eef8"]Dr. ColorChip Shoe Polish Technique - For fixing multiple rock chips and road rash - YouTube[/ame]

I have used it before. The product is well suited for touching up areas that have gravel stone chips (ie: large quantity of small chips in one area). Reason its good is that you are sloppily dabbing paint on all the spots, tapping spots with a gloved finger to lower raised paint drops, then wiping off excess in a few large wipes. End result is lower spots where the chips are, but nicely colour matched. They are still visible from about 4 feet and in with the colours I have used.

For smaller numbers or bigger chips I think dealer touch up paint is better.

I'm not sure if I used the product wrong but it really didn't work for me. I was attempting to cover up some road rash on my front bumper (over 100 + micro chips) but every time I went to wipe off the excess paint, none would stick in the chipped area and it would all come off.

You probably had wax or other residue that needed to be thoroughly cleaned off first. I think they have a wax remover solution although a strong soapy solution applied with somthing like a finger nail brush followed by a thorough rinsing and application of rubbing alcohol would probably work as well.

And I bet you're right. Prior to applying, all I did was a basic car wash. Never thought to strip the wax off as it (Dr.ColorChip) never stated you needed to do such in the instruction. Probably common sense though when you are trying to paint anything though.

Has worked well for me on a couple of cars. The second time using it recently I used the squeegee they have available and it helped to quickly fill multiple chips while getting rid of most of the excess. The most time consuming part is polishing away the excess so it's important to get rid of as much of it as you can prior to it drying.

I ordered a Dr. Colorchip squeegee kit over the weekend, going to have sunny weather all this weekend so hopefully I'll get some good before / after shots.

And yeah @lupindub you're supposed to prep the surface and then after painting you're not supposed to wax the car for 30 days.

I think using a 50/50 iso and water and a dab of dish soap should be enough prep.

Got to work with Dr. Colorchip today for about 30 minutes, only got to do about 1/4 of the bumper before I decided I needed to order some more sealact and a few more wipes to get the job done.

But here's the progress so far, a big improvement and you can definitely see the difference in the areas that I worked on and the areas that are still chipped:

BEFORE:

AFTER 2 Passes:

It blended very well. You can still see pockmarks from the chips if you lean in and inspect the paint, but from 10 feet away it's made the appearance so much better. From what I've seen so far though I am very satisfied with how this product works and so far it has met my expectations 100%.

A few helpful tips, I found the squeegee to be useless on our front bumper as there are too many curves, it wasted a lot of paint and went everywhere when I tried. It's much easier smearing it with your fingertips with gloves on or using the paintbrush. The sealact takes more work than I expected to remove the paint, and the kit should come with more wipes than it does to get a large job done. If you're doing a whole bumper you're going to want a lot of sealact and a bunch of fresh wipes.

I'll get some more in next week and do a follow up when I get the rest of the bumper done.

I had pretty strong results using ScratchWizard (similar to Dr. Colorchip) on my D4S Black Silica BRZ. I redid half of my entire bumper with the kit they provided and was happy with it (with exception of the provided clear coat).

To do these repairs right you need patience, time, and to follow directions provided.
