BP3D Competition FRS race car

Hey everyone.just thought i’d share some pictures of our FRS race car build, I waited a little while before making a thread because i wanted to have at least a couple of things to show and since we don’t work on it too often, the thread would have been boring.

So, we are building a car to race in Super Production Challenge (SPC), which is a local serie here in Quebec Canada. The main goal of the serie is to have great races but keep the cost down. Most races are all held on one day instead of a whole weekend and the tire choice is a very cheap street tire which is the BF Goodrich Sport comp2. So the tire budget for the whole season is like 1500$ including practices where with series with slicks is more like 3k per weekend. The only other alternative we have around to race is the Canadian Touring Car Championship where a full season cost upwards of 100k so there was no way we wanted to pay that.

So enough with that, we have been racing in SPC for 3 years now and won the championship last year. The car is an Acura RSX which was originally prepared by compass360 but nothing is left from there, everything had to be changed (They tend to put the car back to useless before they sell) Here is some pictures of our current car

Now here is the part of interest, the build. We bought a car that was salvaged due to what we think is hitting a small tree that fell on the car afterwards. The car needed a front bumper, hood, right fender, mirror, air bags, dash, new seat belts, windshield, radiator, AC condenser, it had some knicks on the doors, A pillar, cracked rear bumper , etc. Basically, we were able to source the parts we needed for like 1500$, air bags and all we obviously didn’t need. We forgot to take some pictures of the car before we started tearing it down, yeah I know, not good. Anyway, the first thing we decided to do was to strip it and send it to get a FIA roll cage made. We decided not to attempt at making it ourselves because we didn’t have much time and wanted to start testing it this year.

Here are the pictures of the roll cage

Then I started attacking the wiring because when I tried to install the body ECU and the Power Steering ECU back in place, they wouldn’t fit because the roll cage was right in the middle of it. I had to relocate both boxes. I didn’t take many picture of it either, sorry for not being too reliable on taking pictures of the progress.

Here is where it was relocated

had to modify the engine bay harness too

I really didn’t take enough pictures to show the mayhem it made but here is all the wiring I took out, all 14lbs of it. I hope there was nothing I needed in there

Finally, we have a radiator, the car is ALIVE! What a relief after all that wiring, I must admit I was kind of nervous after that hack job.

We have finally put all the parts we bought ON the car

Ok seriously, we decided to lay all the parts and make a nice picture just to remind us how much money was going into this project.

and a bonus, where’s Waldo

Picture of the front suspension before

and after

Had to modify the RacerX lower control arm because they didn’t fit with the BBK

Charcoal canister and all emission stuff gone

Solid subframe and diff bushings, what PITA job it is

Here is yesterday’s project, Exedy stage one clutch and flywheel

I think we can see the Perrin engine mount a little bit too.

And here is where we are at now, diff with 4,56 and Greddy cover installed, solid bushings everywhere, Whiteline transmission mount and aluminum driveshaft

Awesome build so far. If I build another one that competes outside of my race series (NASA Performance Touring), I'm definitely doing a lot of these mods and asking you guys for details. Love the pic with all the parts laid out. Really cool.

We are still debating as to what we will do engine wise, we are probably going to need a supercharger to be in the horsepower requirement.

Really wish i could stay NA but damn this engine is limited.
