Remove, pull tape, sand and then resin it to inside of the trunk creating RECESSED letters. Which IMO will look 1000x better than raised badging. You could then dicide wether to paint it or leave it carbon for a ultra-sleek look.
That Is also a good idea... if I could have them illuminate that'd be dope actually..

I get back to the US on the 7th and I lost my phone on Friday so I am SOL when it comes to contact and getting stuff done. If you have a steady hand, you can dremel the SCION out of trunk garnish, then put an EL panel behind of it. I really don't see it being that difficult, but time consuming...VERY. It is definitely something you would want to try out on a replacement garnish and not the one your actual car. On top of that, you would have to get good stencils made. The only complication (I see) would be what the backside of garnish looks like.

Are there any videos of something at least similar being done?

I don't follow what others do. The way I see it, "Everything is an experiment. How badly do want it?" - me

Another option would be to use LED's and a diffuser panel. The benefit to that would be a virtually unlimited lifespan. The downside is that the entire assembly would be thicker and would show small spots if done incorrectly.
