Those new TRD Griffon times at Tsukuba are pretty insane. Just for reference...it is almost a half second faster than Orido's LS7 powered car that makes 680whp...and I'm pretty sure Orido isn't a shtty driver lol.

I guess weight savings really do make a big difference, if not bigger than raw power. Sounds a lot easier, way cheaper and more realistic to lighten the FT too, than to swap an LS engine in it or make gobs of FI power (makes me want to get a Shorai battery and replace the front seats with featherweight 1 piece seats even more lol).

Weight reduction is generally better than adding power, but it's difficult to reduce weight..

Yes..but only when going extreme weight reduction like Griffon's every-single-panel/part replaced lol. Even then...it's still much easier than swapping in an engine, engineering/fabbing mounts parts, making it work, subsystems, tuning, etc.; since all that's really needed is simple bolt ons for weight reduction.

And for milder weight reduction...battery, seats, interior, exhaust, flywheel, driveshaft, wheels, brakes....those sound pretty darn easy and quick to do if you ask me...especially compared to a swap or even an FI kit with tuning. I bet you can easily shave a single human's weight with those aforesaid easy weight reduction mods.

To match Griffon, you'd need to shave 2-3 humans' weight lol.

Those changes aren't particularly cheap though, and I'd include 'cost' in my definition of 'easy'. Throwing on an FI kit is likely much easier and cost about same.

Reducing 100 lbs and reducing 700 lbs are completely different stories.

There are proven routes to making 1000hp in this car, as are making 250hp. There's no proven route to reducing 700 lbs. You have to literally make your own stuff.

$$$ is the largest problem.

Remember, this is still the holy grail at Tsukuba.

I would love to be able shave about 300-400 lbs but it's almost impossible with the added stuff..

Although I got rid of some weight and remove tires, junk in the trunk and sometimes back seats it's still less than 100 lbs I think.. hopefully lightweight battery and BBK will also help getting rid of some weight from the especially from the front

The two are completely different things and have nothing to do with each other.

I wish people would stop equivocating adding power to reducing weight.

ASM S2000 is 335hp. Griffon is probably around 230hp give or take. The ASM S2000 also has a more aggressive aero package overall and a full wide body kit closer to a GT300 type car. If I recall correctly, was this the S2000 that had the holes drilled out all over the body and chassis?
