From what i have observed flkc and fbkc are always active as is stft , however untill i suspect the coolant is up to a certain temp the stft corrections dont alter ltft and the iam wont be altered either till car warms
up.
Their may also be some learning or calibraton of knock sensors after an ecu reset

some info below on knock strategy its for 16bit ecu but most appears to apply to 32bit ecu like we have

From Wayno's guide:

2.2 DISCLAIMERS FOR ADJUSTING TIMING YOURSELF

Your worst enemy here is making adjustments on false data.
Gotcha's:
- Your ECU will not record knock immediately after flashing
- Your ECU will record knock due to fuel not having sufficient time to adapt
- Your ECU will record knock based on fluke knock or external sounds

This is why I asked how many miles you had on that flash before doing the WOT run, just to be sure it was given a bit of time to learn.

I'm not certian these statements are completely true

- Your ECU will not record knock immediately after flashing

Use your OFT tuning alerts and set up knock alerts

FLKC < -0.7
Knock Correction < -0.7
IAM < 0.9

Ive recorded knock 500m down the road after flash

- Your ECU will record knock due to fuel not having sufficient time to adapt

If you maf scaling is good it wont need time to adapt, also in closed loop its adapting all the time and very quickly (stft)
Yes in open loop stored ltft need to be learnt and applied but these should be minimal if maf scaling is good.

- Your ECU will record knock based on fluke knock or external sounds

This is certainly possible, but unless you have exhaust hitting on chassis or loose nuts/bolts or something else creating "noise" at the correct frequencys to effect knock sensor readings it should not be a problem for most people.

Here's a question:

Pulling Timing in trouble areas = good.
Advancing Timing in flkc > 0 areas = ?

If your on petrol you could add a bit of timing in areas showing no knock.
If you seeing positive flkc values it means ecu is returning timing pulled last time it went through that rpm/load range.

you also need to be careful that the timing you add does not cause knock in all circumstances like hot/cold conditions light load heavy load. When car rearly hot like at track or sustained hard driving. Dont just rely on one or two runs.

most tuners will find the max timing then back it off a bit.

You can also add fuel to reduce knock and finding max power is a balance between timing fueling and intake/exhaust cam timing etc.

On E85 you rarely need a dyno as it may go past MBT without knock

Okay so I was predominantly talking about positive flkc values. Interesting. So flkc kinda acts as a running average that governs IAM.
I think I'll not advance timing then. I'd imagine wayno has got it pretty good at the current point.

FLKC is can only be positive when IAM is less than 1.

Almost there with the 89oct tune!! Take a look guys! Just working on the final timing issues at loads of 0.9, 1.1 and 1.0.
Will have virtual dyno later on this week when my corrected log is learned.

Okay Steve, I've got something for ya. How do I get my car to make positive flkc readings? Right now it only does in the 4000rpms at moderate load, which makes me look like a speedy asshole.

like @Kodename47 said FLKC will only be positive if the IAM is less than one.

FLKC positive is the ecu returning timing and testing if it can increment the IAM back towards one.

What your aiming for is to have the iam at one most of the time. the odd drop to 0.9 occasionally is ok as is the odd bit of negative flkc or fbkc of -1 or so, especially on low grade 89 fuel.

Is there any way to instigate it?

What conditions do I need in order to have my car raise the IAM? Since my last correction (pulling timing in troubled areas), my IAM has dropped to 83 and is probably still dropping.
