There is no "aftermarket pump" for it.

I'm convinced there are production tolerances that explain why some do it and some don't. Mine had it. You could hear it with the windows up. Pump was replaced a few thousand miles ago and now, once in a while, you can just hear something with the windows down. It explains why replacements took care of it for some but not all.

If this car cost more... and had an extra 200 lbs of insulation, you probably wouldn't notice it. But it is what it is, so you'll hear it. There's nothing wrong if it chirps.

That seems very likely.

My theory is fuel additives. It seems like I get them after running 1/4 tank of gas from some stations (then have to deal with it until the next fillup) then after using 1/4 tank of a fillup from another station it goes away. I hope to test this theory on a 3,500 mile road trip in September.

It's not detrimental according to Toyobaru if I'm not mistaken. It hasn't done anything with my car for 2 years besides it being inconvenient once in a while. If that was such a big issue, I'm sure you would have easily found the big thread about it with a simple search, and, as such, would have turned you, or other folks interested in the car, off about the cars and looked the other way if it would be such pain in the ass. You took a gamble and received crickets with your car. Congrats.

The only time I've ever heard it in my 2013 was when my Shell station was out of 91 ethanol free, and I had to buy E10 at another station. It quit again when I was able to fill up with ethanol free again and has never chirped since.

oh really?

Because I have one.

Actually there are many many many. pumps

Some require a little modification to the housing, but that takes all of 2 minutes.

I wonder if the resale value of my car is higher because of no chirping?

Of course, on these forums a bunch of noobs would chime in with
"I can find a chirp-less FRS at my dealer for less"
or
"My buddy is selling a cricket-less frs for way less"
or
"this site(insert link to someone selling exact same thing as me) is selling a chirp-less frs for less than you"

although, in all honesty, we should have a "Chirp/Cricket section" under "technical issues"

Like this?

Shell Gas - 93 Octane here in the DC region - gives me the worst crickets, even after my fuel pump replacement in February. Know a few FR-S drivers around here who avoid Shell for that very reason. Exxon is intermittent. Sunonoco and Sheetz gas never gives me crickets. Sadly closest ethanol-free station is about 70 miles away.

Well, you should do a little more research to understand that the In Tank fuel pump ( which is the one you replaced and I've already replaced twice DW265c and Walbro 485) is not the one that chirps.

The on that chirps is the High Pressure Fuel Pump which sits in the engine bay just north to the drivers side port injectors. There are no aftermarket high pressure fuel pumps.

lol. the reason it chirps is because there is not enough pressure before it coming from the fuel tank to overcome the lack of lubrication in poor quality gas. I havent had a single chirp since replacing my pump.

Lol, this is the funniest of them all.... I'll just say that is not the reason.
