Sadly after almost 14 months, the water monster has won and filled my right taillight. Going Monday to get it replaced.

After the week long rain we got last week, my driver side tail light now has quite a bit of water in it. I haven't had a chance to get to the dealer yet.

Whar kind of seal material does the toms come with? The sonar tails that I got came with a nicer than stock foam. Seemed a little thicker and more dense. It does not have the adhesive strip like stock.

Fixed my condensation problem for free. Dealer got me new lights and flattened the sealing surface.

Anyone have condensation this bad?

Here is a video, actual standing water in the lens lol
Drilled 2 small holes and its fine now.
Going to replace these with a set of toms tail lights.

Some people saw mine at the TF/Countryside Subaru meet -probably 1/3 full of water - we were joking about putting a goldfish in there lol. Mine were the worst I had seen. Scion replaced both of them under warranty.

So I took mine in this morning, made sure to mention that they released a new gasket etc. The Service rep just gave me a blank stare. Just a few minutes ago, the rep called and informed me that there was a new gasket and that they were ordering a new tail for the drivers side and both gaskets and that I would have to bring my car back again once they arrive. When I mentioned I had told him about the gasket this morning he was nice and evasive. Sad when we know more about these cars than the service department guys.

Not sad, because service staff often do not have all the latest information in front of them.

The job of service at a dealer is to diagnose the issue with the car, and to verify that it is covered under warranty and to search/apply the proper TSB, if a known fix is in place.

Their job may require them to read all the issues as provided by the manufacturer, but often times they read it as the issue(s) come in on customer cars.

We, as enthusiasts, know more because of internet forums and because we're so paranoid about the car. The average car owner (say, Toyota Camry), won't care too much as long as the issue is fixed and there's adequate transportation compensation.

I'm sure I can school any service tech or manager on how to work on a car, but to be honest it takes much more than technical know-how to run a service department in a profitable manner. Keep in mind that a business as a whole has many parts to it, we're just interacting with one small portion of it.

I had this happen to one of my lights after a wash a few weeks ago. I had gone months without any issue.

I know its probably been brought up already but I did this to fix the issue.

Dry out the taillight by dumping as much water as you can and then using a hair dryer to get the rest out.

take two large washers and a bolt/nut, and screw them into each body panel hole that the tail light studs go through, and flatten them all out (a few of mine were slightly warped)

take off the stock gasket, clean the taillight, and apply a small bead of black silicone gasket to the back of the gasket and then press it back down.

Install the light back in and follow the proper tightening order (basically start from the top outside of the light - closest to trunk opening, then the top inside, bottom inside, bottom outside). Do not overtighten.

haven't had any issues since. The TSB calls for a thicker gasket but I didn't bother to do that.

I took my FRS to the dealership this morning to address condensation in the right taillight and they are going to replace the whole assembly. As hot as its been I was surprised it never dried up, but just glad they're taking care of it.

It surprises me that this issue is still around considering it was supposedly fixed on the production line more than a year ago...

I bought my car with 5k miles on it so maybe the newer ones don't have the problem.
