Just bought my FR-S yesterday, noticed condensation today =(. Took it into the dealership and they ordered a new set of tail lights on the spot.

Will post back when they get replaced and I can test the new ones out.

Question: has anyone had luck with applying the Lemon law to this issue?

I'm about to take my car back in for the 5th time and I'm really mentally exhausted at this point. The problem keeps recurring, it's an inherent design flaw, and it definitely affects the long-term value of my car.

My car was one of the first 300 scion FR-'s produced, so I guess it's natural that there will be some defects... but still this just sucks

I uploaded the TSB in the sticky at the top of this section. It solely outlines the inspection and replacement procedure. It specifies which vin range this TSB applies to and doesn't provide new part numbers. The part numbers remain the same, but that doesn't mean their manufacture hasn't changed.

btw. my dealer ordered mine on nov. 16th (supposedly) and they still haven'treceived them yet. Anyone think I should call over to scion? They keep telling me they are waiting on one part, then they can replace my fuel pump and tail lights both in the same day.

Yep bc this Thursday they're giving me a rental car and they told me they can over night new tails and get them Friday.

So I got my tail lights replaced last Thursday, and whadaya know? condensation this morning. E-mailed the dealer some pics and asked about getting another replacement and got this reply:
Quote:
HELLO BRYAN, WE RECENTLY GOT YOUR EMAIL FOR YOUR LIGHTS AND BEFORE WE ORDERED THEM WE HAD TO CONTACT SUBARU. WE SENT OVER THE PICTURES YOU SENT US AND THEY SAY THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION FOR LIGHTS. WE WERE TOLD THAT CONDENSATION IS NORMAL AND ONLY TO REPLACE LIGHTS IF WATER IS FILLING UP IN TAIL LIGHTS. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE BUT WE ARE NOT ABLE TO REPLACE YOUR TAIL LIGHTS FOR CONDENSATION ONLY. THEY ARE NOT A SEALED UNIT AND HAVE VENTS TO ALLOW CONDENSATION TO EVAPORATE WHEN BRAKE LIGHTS ARE USED. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL US BACK OR CALL US THANKS.
So I guess we can all stop complaining now since this is "normal" and only come back when our lights are little fish bowls...

If you look at the example picture in Scion's TSB, there only is condensation at the top of the tail light. There is no water filled up. It also says "moisture inside". So, I have a feeling your dealer is making up a story...

Yeah, actually e-mailed them back calling BS since they saw it fit to replace them the first time around.

Is frost on the inside of the tail light normal? There's a bit of frost on the reflective portion and on the outer clear plastic. I rarely drive in the winter, and today I noticed this on the tail light!

This is how it starts. Mine took a few weeks before it was completely fogged over and an inch of water.

The dealer said it's normal for me too and told me to bring it back only if water starts pooling. All I had to do was tap lightly on the lights once or twice until the condensation dripped off and started pooling at the bottom. You can see in my picture where the condensation was falling after tapping on it.

Dealers make people jump through hoops all the time when there's something blatantly wrong. It was only a matter of time when there's so much condensation in the light that it starts pooling. I just helped it along. I wasn't willing to wait until it fills up all the way and shorts something out. It's stupid.

The second guy helping me with it was nice about it. Got mine replaced within a week after doing this.
