I haven't driven my BRZ in anger yet but have 4-5 years DE experience with RE-11's and RS-3's. The RS-3's do have a small bit more grip and I found managing tire pressures easier / more consistent. But I love the RE-11. They are dang close on grip, are better in the wet, can be flipped side to side for better wear, and they last (on the track) twice as long.

And as renfield90 said, stay on the originals as long as possible. They will, in fact help you learn more than a RE-11 or RS-3 at this stage of your DE career.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to run the stocks for this event then inspect them again after. I just had the wheels off to look at the brakes and there is some very minor chunking in some spots but I'm sure I can run them for these 2 days at VIR then reassess.

I think I am going to swap tires left to right because I saw more wear on the front left than front right. Also going to buy a better tire gauge so I can monitor them, I may have had improper pressures.

Are your brake pads chunking? If so is often referred to as "green fade". That means all the binders / glue in the pad material had not fully cured and thus bits and pieces of the pad fall off.

If that is the case I would not make the trip to VIR without an extra set of pads with me if not just go ahead change them now.

Who are you going to run with at VIR?

Replace your tires when:
(a) the tire cord is showing;
(b) the tire has blown out, or;
(c) the tire has been stolen;

Hope this helps

But seriously, you do have some life left on those tires. Check the "tire wear indicator," which is a horizontal bump in the tred groves. You'll have to find it but once you do you'll have a good indicator when you should consider replacing the tires.

Edit: I did see your wear indicators and they still look below the tire tred. I'd keep rocking the tires and keep your eye out for some good deals. Also, if you see any good deals on Tirerack.com or other good venders Discount Tires will usually match their prices so you don't have to ship tires online. I save about $60 a tire through them. :p

Grippy tires will mask the mistakes you made, and what feels fast when you're still learning could actually be really slow. Crappy tires will force you to learn the fundamentals.
Agreed - even more in my case with the A/S bridgestones. They're a joke, but if you can autoX remotely competitively in stock class, you're doing something right. I am switching to some Rivals for next season, but i'm putting in a whole year this year on the garbage tires. It forces me to not be sloppy and to be smooth. I'm glad i'm "stuck" with them for a while, as I know i'm getting good if I can put a good run in now.
