Also the initial heat cycling process extends the life of the tires. FYI, many people run their NT01 to the cords ( they typically flip them on the wheel after the outer tire is worn out) and they claim the tires perform better (possibly after the tread is gone)

Here is a good read about the heat cycling if you're interested:
http://www.tyre-technology.com/index.php/heat-cycling
I think what they are seeing is a combo of both, as the tire compound for the Dunlops dont seem to be consistent down to the bottom half of the tread where rubber seems to be much harder. Add on some nasty heat cycling and you have a dead tire.

It's hard to make a tire work for street and hard core competition without some trades off for street or track/autox.

yes, and that's the reason why I don't feel the "compromise tires" especially when we can fit an extra set of wheels in our cars (and many other things)

Nitto NT01s cost nothing unlike the more expensive R compounds (such as pirelli trofeo R or Michelin Sport Cup/Cup 2)

The tires in question have approximately 21 autocross runs on them and 1 track day with 4 20 minute sessions (1.6 mile course, pushed pretty hard).

I realize this is vague, but a shot in the dark for anyone who may have insight.

Thanks!

Do you know about durometers?

Slight deviation from topic, what kind of pressures are you guys running in the RS3? I know it will need to be higher than the Z2

Don't cook your street tires. The grip will never quite come back.

If you lose grip without the tires making noise, they're heat cycled out.

I usually shoot for 37F/36R hot, because it feels right, but it might not be ideal. I need to get a pyrometer and do some testing..

I hear the rs3 v1 cycle out pretty rapidly loosing most of it grippiness with more than 50% left. Ever hear of people running tire Warmers on cars at trackdays? I've seen them on go karts.

I have heard ZIIs give way more warning before breaking loose than RS3's ... true or false?

RS3 is more slip angle tolerant, so some people perceive the Z2's lack of tolerance as being more progressive.

Don't cook your tires. Most people on RS3 do not know how to preserve their tires.
