I feel like every time you post you are basically saying "We're going to take all of your money. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But we will....."

Well, we do have a lot of failed experiments too... and until now, we haven't really had a OS Giken LSD setting that provided enough of a performance gain over an off-the-shelf unit that would be worthy of what we'd put a CSG-Spec label on.

We're gonna keep testing, but we're making progress.

Even if an OS Giken LSD doesn't end up with a CSG-Sec label, you had me interested in an LSD from the OP. A lot more research ensued and here I am: waiting for my wallet's permission to spend spend spend!

Can we please delete all of Suberman's posts that derailed an otherwise very good thread?

Can someone explain me real life advantages of helical LSD over stock torsen (if they are any) on small circuit, drifting and spirited driving (stock power)? Thanks.

It's actually very simple.

Torsen is load sensitive. As long as both tires have load, the Torsen will lock accordingly. When one tire has a significantly reduced load, the Torsen doesn't lock. We have been able to setup cars successfully to reduce this issue, but not completely eliminate it.

The clutch-type LSD locks...basically almost all the time. 1-way locks progressively during acceleration, 1.5-way locks progressively during acceleration and a little less on decel, 2-way locks progressively/aggressively in accel and decel. What I mean by locking is, both wheels are continuously receiving a consistent amount of power. Unlike the Torsen, when it stops locking, one side spins (all the power due to path of least resistance) and the other side gets nothing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I was more interested in differences between stock LSD and Mfactory HELICAL LSD. I had Mfactory 1.5/2W LSD and crash it, so I am looking for a new LSD. I suppose it is like 1W with more grip?

The Torsen is a helical differential. The only thing you will be changing is the TBR (Torque Bias Ratio) by going to a different helical differential. Torsen/Quaife/OBX helical differentials all work the same, as soon as one wheel has 0 friction, all power goes to that wheel. Whereas with the clutch type/metal plate type when one wheel has 0 friction it will lock both rear.

Out of curiosity how did you brake the 1.5/2W LSD??

I jump on a catwalk sideways after/during powerslide. Now one wheel is spinning (zero traction), second is twitching. But it may be something wrong with this dif before, I described it here in some other thread.

Generally "helical" means "Torsen". Clutch-types are more predictable and consistent. If you would like a more custom setup, please let us know.
