Most schools offer but don't require a class on badic finance. I learned from my parents like most people do. Being conservative has allowed me a great life in my 30s,much better than most people I grew up with. I bought the FR-S for cash only because of past conservative decisions. I do not wish I blew more money on cars when I was younger. I look forward to all the awesome cars I will get that crap all over the Mustang or Miata I wanted. Not to mention the four car garage we have. I'm also thinking of building a larger second garage. Figure I can add at least two more spaces, and maybe up to six more.
My point is to delay gratification. It pays off in so many ways.

Everyone who has given you advice here is making very large assumptions about you based on a minuscule amount of information you have given us. This may be the perfect car for you. Or it may be a huge mistake. The good thing is that it appears so far that you're approaching this the right way, by trying to gather information to make an informed decision. Keep gathering that information. Go take a test drive in one. Investigate what kind of interest rate you can get on a loan, how much the payments and insurance will be and how that will fit in with your overall financial goals. Keep considering it until you know one way or the other whether it's the right choice for you. There's something to be said for being responsible. There's also something to be said for letting yourself have some fun. |

Thank you for your continuous responses, but man.. that's just messed up. I don't want to cause any trouble, but I am not even sure where you are getting the idea of me not being responsible and not knowing anything about financial stuff. Just because I asked if BRZ is worth it? I might have not explained about myself in depth, but I have clearly explained that I have been the one who's been taking care of my family. In fact, I don't really have to explain anything, it would be a hasty generalization for you to make such assumption like that. Not to brag about it, but I went to state university and paid all the tuition on my own as well as my car payment. The only reason why I have been and am still able to do so is because not only I have earned my way up here on my own at a fairly young age, but I also knew how to take care of my family financially. Not many people around my age can support their family and still be able to afford $25,000.00 car. I wonder what you were doing when you were 18~25. No need to bash people like that. If you don't want to answer my question, you can simply ignore and go check out different thread. I just earned all this in hard way, that's why whether I can afford it or not, spending money has become an "issue/problem" for me. But you can only live like this and keep on saving so much. (sometimes you gotta enjoy if I justify). I was just curious as to what BRZ owners think, that's it man. Last edited by nutstae; 06-16-2014 at 11:36 PM. |

This makes zero sense to me, and I think was a big financial misstep if it's true. Risk your credit? Your credit sucks when you're that age. I'm thinking troll, but if not, I still cannot see how buying the BRZ is a good decision for you.

You asked if the car is worth it because you couldn't afford to pay cash for it. We can't answer that lol. Obviously it was worth it to all of us - we bought the car. It sure seemed from your posts that you live with your parents and were asking if it's financially worth buying the car, maybe I misunderstood.. sorry if that was the case.

I bought my BRZ because I had enough cash on hand to pay for two. Drive the Corolla.

Of course the sensible answer is: if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
But I also remember, in olden days, I was a dead broke undergraduate who had to work three part-time jobs to support myself and my Italian sport cars. That was fun and not so fun. Japanese cars are generally reliable and economical, but the Toybaru is an exception. It is about as reliable as my old FIAT and Alfa Romeo. Please be prepared for that. As for the Corolla and Mazda, they should give you a few more years of good service. You may want to keep them, while you save for something closer to your taste. Most Japanese cars have a built-in obsolescence date, but are very reliable until then. You will know when that day comes, because all parts, more or less, will break down around the same time. Then it is time for replacement, hopefully with something you like better. Good luck. |
