Smart decision! I'm with you on the bleeding heart thing. I always give people the benefit of the doubt but after dealing with people outside of insurance enough times, it never really worked out in my best interest. You're paying for insurance, use it :P Hope they don't give you too much trouble.

By the looks of it, you probably didn't get hit at even 30mph. Good thats its all getting properly looked at now though.

Insurance did not give me to much trouble. I had a police report, saw a doctor, and contacted my family lawyer, so the documentation was there, just not reported to them directly.

I may have been hit at less than 30 mph but the truck behind me, a small mazda b2300 or whatever, did not brake until he was maybe 3 car lengths behind me. I was about to make a lane change and caught him out of the corner of my eye in the rear view mirror, saw him look up and open his mouth as he slammed on the brakes.

His truck ended up much worse than the BRZ. I passed him maybe a minute or two before going around 65 and he was going 55. Could have been worse. Ill keep everyone posted as the weekend roles around.

My car will be going to my dealership this Friday to get a new fuel pump, and then on saturday it will being going to the shop my dealer recommends.

I felt bad for the kid who hit me, and did not want to increase his insurance cost anymore, but my car and my health is what is important. I still owe everyone some pictures which will go up today, I promise.

Judging by the damage, I feel the truck that hit me got on the breaks at about 50 and when he hit me was more likely going 30 +/-. From a short distance, you can't even tell it happened. As for me, neck and left shoulder are still stiff but getting better. Nothing a few vicodin and light P.T. work in the gym can't fix.

I'll keep everyone posted and thank you for talking some sense in me. God I can be a bleeding heart sometimes. Just feel bad because I was that kid with too many tickets, 3 for speeding 1 for tail gating, and a high insurance cost. Thank you all. Once I resize the photos they will be up.

Parts total at the moment is 650, we will see what the labor will add up to once we factor in painting the bumper.

Can I not order a painted bumper from subaru? Matching paint is my only concern

I am very pleased to hear that you are doing this. I don't feel bad when someone is irresponsible enough to hit me. This is why we have insurance, and this is why dumbass kids buy insurance -- use it because if they even CARED one bit, you would not be hit at all.

People make mistakes, but it's always out of carelessness. I'm not being biased towards the kid, whatever story it is -- there is always something that caused the catalyst and it's just absolute -- carelessness on one's part.

I'm glad all is going well -- and please definitely get yourself checked out properly. Seeing this last post makes everyone in the forums a bit happier since you're doing what you can. ^_^ let us know the outcome afterwards. Glad you're okay overall!!

Judging by the photos -- this is at least a 3-4k job (labor included) Not much was damaged and most of all of the items needs replacing (especially the protector.)

glad you contacted insurance and all, but I wouldnt feel too bad for the kid. I mean its like a lesson to drive safer and more careful next time. Sure we were all there at one point, but some people have to learn somehow so stuff like this doesnt happen again. Just my 2 cents

its good you are doing better. sometimes this type of accident seems minor but the post-accident impact tends to become a long term pain if not treated right.

car can be fixed, parts can be replaced but your body definitely did not appreciate that. hope you recover well from the accident and have ur doc check you through carefully.

take it easy and hope u are back on the road in no time. get well soon!

soft tissue damage can take 2-3 days to feel. So you need to get checked out. I got checked out by a chiropractor and it took 2 1/2 months to get my back completely back to normal. I got an attorney, and after paying the chiropractor and my attorney i had almost 7,000 dollars in pain and suffering and missing work/events. I would definitely get checked out.

My left shoulder still hurts a week later. I had my seat belt on and i held on to the wheel with my left hand so i could angle away from the car in front of me. The combination of the two really did me in. Mobility is getting better though.

Picking up a Cat-back exhaust today though so when I go to get my car fixed up I can have it installed!!!

So I am bringing this up here and not in the BooBoo thread because I have a few questions and would like to see everyone's thoughts and how they would handle the situation.

Today I was rear on 101 south before the Richmond bridge exit. Traffic had come to a complete stop fairly quickly but there was plenty of time and room for smooth breaking.

The car in front of me stopped, and i stopped with about a cars length in between us. About 5 seconds later after coming to s top I catch something out of the corner of my eye in the rear view mirror and saw a mazda pickup truck coming in too fast.

There was nothing I could do, but had enough time to put the car in neutral and lift my foot of the break slightly. I missed the Bimmer in front of me just barely by heading towards the center divide. I was in the far left lane and missed both the center divide and the car in front of me

I was stopped and the mazda truck hit me going 40 to 50 ish. I have a concussion and serious whip lash with burst blood vessels all over my back.

Here is where I would like some insight. I traded info with the driver who hit me, and he asked if we could deal with this outside of our insurance company, and I said it would depend on total damage. I took my car to the dealer and it appears only the rear bumper and re inforcer are damaged, including the cent light down low and a few other plastic gizmos. After bringing the car to the dealer, I know have a parts list for about 700.

The driver wh hit me, his dad owns a garage in south san fran called Zak's Autobody. Has anyone heard of this garage? At the moment I have not called the insurance company and am going to this garage in the morning to have my car looked at.

So many questions. Should I do the work with the drivers dad in there shop after they buy the parts? Should I have them buy the parts from my dealership where the car came from? Should I let insurance handle this?

I believe the damage does not extend beyond the bumper re inforcer and will minimal labor to fix up. One Pro to doing the work at this shop is I could have them install a cat-back for me that I will be getting soon as part of the agreement.

I will post some picks in the morning. Please let me know what you would do in this situation. I want my back to be fix and back to 100%

I Take insurance claims for a living. My honest advice -- Go through insurance. It's what it is there for and people are ify at best these days.
