Reminds me of those futuristic cars that were in that game like Ridge Racers, but I'm open minded about this and think that it's pretty cool. It could spawn a lot of neat cars.

Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo virtual supercar designed for the popular Gran Turismo driving game will become a reality at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 26. That’s because Nissan will display a full size concept model of the 2+2 supercar featuring an advanced aerodynamic body, four-wheel drive chassis and active suspension.

Nissan says the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo adapts race-track technology (in particular, air flow management) to a road car environment. This is why the carmaker says that the extreme design of the concept car is partly shaped by emotion and partly by the wind.

Of course, the first people able to drive the futuristic supercar will be Gran Turismo 6 gamers, with the Concept 2020 to be available for download in July in 10 different shades for Playstation users.

“This is in line with the Nissan philosophy. In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan’s promise of delivering innovation that excites,” said Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe.

Finally, in the press release Nissan hints at a production version of the study that may be driven up the Goodwood hill in 2020. Who knows, maybe it will wear the GT-R badge…

Nissan has revealed a new video that highlights the development of the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo.

Created by a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe, the car was built from scratch using the latest digital design tools. According to Michael Reinth "The design brief was more or less try to design a car that looks fast, that looks super interesting, that just makes people go wow."

After the initial drawings were created, Nissan skipped over the clay model stage and went straight into creating a digital representation of the concept. This enabled them to focus on giving the car unparalleled aerodynamics which will be a "huge advantage in the game itself."

As aerodynamics engineer Takashi Kamiyama explains "In this case we've allowed air to pass through between the tires and the cabin so as to cut though as little air as possible, thus reducing drag."

Nissan’s latest vehicle destined to join the pantheon of 148 different Nissans that have appeared in the Gran Turismo video game series over the years is the Concept 2020 Vision. Originally designed for the virtual world, the striking concept has now leapt into the real world as a star attraction at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed currently taking place in the U.K.

Nissan was so pleased with the initial sketch work for the Concept 2020 Vision that it asked its advanced engineering team to help mold the final shape as well as create a life-sized model. The model is the only physical representation of the car in existence and it was created from scratch using the latest digital design tools.

Nissan says the Concept 2020 Vision gives hints as to how a performance car of the future might look. Considering all the familiar design cues, that performance car of the future is likely to be the next-generation GT-R, the R36 model tipped to be introduced for the 2016 model year.

And the concept is also said to be a key factor in Nissan’s GT Academy program, where gamers who aspire to become race car drivers are put through the paces and a few find the pro grid. One graduate is Jann Mardenborough, who after three 24 Hours of Le Mans races and a British GT Championship will soon be starting a driver development program for Formula One. He’s featured in the video above driving a virtual version of the Concept 2020 Vision up Goodwood’s famous hill climb.

You’ll be able to drive it soon as well, as long as you have a copy of Gran Turismo 6. It will be available for download from next month.

Company says the car is a "vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future."

Nissan has unveiled a full-scale model of their Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Created for Gran Turismo 6, the concept is being billed as a "vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future."

The car draws inspiration from the GT-R and has a futuristic design that is extremely aerodynamic. Starting up front, there's a "V-motion" front fascia with slender LED headlights and a front splitter. We can also see a ventilated hood, side exiting exhausts and a double bubble roof. The concept also has an aggressive rear diffuser and a prominent rear wing.

According to Nissan Design Europe Design Director Taisuke Nakamura “People are quite enthusiastic to race a car in a virtual environment. It’s a new styling challenge without any constraints, boundaries, so it was a purely design challenge from our side to see how much we can go further to achieve an attractive design. It’s like a virtual motor show to me.”

The Vision Gran Turismo concepts just keep getting better, with Nissan‘s contribution debuting at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept gives a preview of the direction the Japanese automaker wants to head with its next GT-R and while it’s on the extreme side, it’s definitely stunning to look at. Gamers will be able to virtually drive the Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept next month in Gran Turismo 6 on the Sony PlayStation 3.

Unfortunately, Nissan kept details about the concept under wraps, including performance specifications and what is potentially powering the supercar. The Japanese automaker did reveal that the concept was designed by a young team at Nissan Design Europe, led by Design Director Taisuke Nakamura. The team also collaborated with engineers in Japan to create a vehicle that reflects the potential of its virtual performance.

“It feels really, really quick,” said Jann Mardenborough, a Nissan GT Academy graduate and NISMO athlete. “It’s been designed virtually. And we’ve got the real car here as a concept car. So, it’s kind of like my story of GT Academy, coming from the virtual world into the real-life racing world to do what I’m doing in motor racing cars. So there’s a link between the virtual of design and me coming from the virtual of racing. I still train on simulators. I still train on Gran Turismo. A perfect example is today. I’m driving the 2020 Concept car from Nissan and tomorrow. I’m going to be driving up Goodwood Hill, and I’m on Goodwood Hill at the moment now. It’s all training virtually to help the real life counterpart. So it’s still a crucial part of my development as a driver.”

The Nissan 2020 Vision has been updated with a new exterior color and a barely noticeable revised grille for its Tokyo Motor Show debut later this month.

The uber-awesome Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is a concept car developed in conjunction with Polyphony Digital Inc., for the Gran Turismo video game. This stunning super car is just one of many extraordinary-looking machines engineered to take part in the virtual world of motor racing.

It carries many design cues found on the current-gen GT-R on a whole different level, whilst its styling and name are a nod to where the Japanese car manufacturer is heading in the not so distant future.

In fact, the original concept – which was gray, by the way – was created by a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe, in London, and even though it was conceived to make you drool over the Playstation controller while driving it in Gran Turismo, the car actually offers some visual insights regarding the R35 GT-R’s replacement.

Nissan, like other renowned car manufacturers, even went the extra mile and made a real life scale model of the thing, revealing it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014, which kind of shows the level of commitment and seriousness regarding the “Vision”. Since then, the car slightly transformed in this new, phenomenal beast and it’s ready to awe and amaze everybody at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

Unlike the previous built, the new machine features a more exciting “Fire Knight” red body color and a slightly revised version of Nissan’s signature V-Motion grille – also found dominating the front fascia of the recently launched Gripz concept.

It’s interesting to see how the GT-R evolved – over the years – from a regular two-door body style into a full-on, wide, hunkered-down supercar killer. Moreover, this particular concept hints that the GT-R it isn’t too far away from adopting supercar proportions.

Nissan’s 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept looks even more intimidating in the metal

If you ever wondered how a Japanese supercar killer looks like, well, here it is. Developed by Nissan together with Polyphony Digital Inc. for the Gran Turismo video game, this striking concept just might be the most hardcore materialization of a Nissan design ever.

It’s low, long and wide proportions and style cues, reminiscent of the current-gen GT-R, confirms that this concept is an exaggerated, performance-hungry evolution of the almighty Godzilla – the car, not the monster. Mind you, the automobile is show-worthy only, as it isn’t functional and it doesn’t appear to have an interior.

Sporting a new, sharp, upgraded look for the Tokyo Motor Show, the car features a more exciting “Fire Knight” red body color – the original concept was gray – and a slightly revised version of Nissan’s signature V-grille.

Complementing the car’s matte hue are the exposed carbon-fiber bits, which were generously used, especially at the back. There’s no denying that the back-end of the car is the most eye-protruding part of the concept, but the immense diffuser and huge central-exhaust are there to emphasize the Vision’s sporty nature.

This European-designed study likely previews Nissan’s future plans with the GT-R, albeit the final product won’t look as striking as this thing does. Still, it makes us wonder whether or not the future GT-R will evolve into a full-on supercar by 2020.

Before he quit to take the top job at Aston Martin, former Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer said the next-generation GT-R, the R36, was being developed alongside the Japanese automaker’s new GT-R LM NISMO Le Mans prototype, which is set to make its competition debut this June at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

At the time, it was thought this mainly had to do with the high-performance hybrid system used on the race car. However, one of the key men involved in Nissan’s Le Mans program, DeltaWing designer Ben Bowlby, has now revealed that the engine of the race car will influence the design of the one in the next GT-R.

In an interview with Top Gear, Bowlby explained that the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 in the race car is an “early ancestor” of the unit that will end up in the next GT-R. He also said the combustion technology and the way the turbo and intake systems are integrated within the head design were all applicable for road car use.

And by taking it racing, Nissan is able to fast-track the development of the version going into the GT-R while also claiming to be using technology proven in racing. The engine in the GT-R LM NISMO develops around 550 horsepower on its own, which is similar to what the current R35 GT-R is producing, but it’s said to be much more fuel efficient too.

At present, the next GT-R is expected to go on sale in 2018, as a 2019 model. It’s likely we’ll see the car make its world debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

Top Gear UK is Adamant the R36 Nissan GT-R Will Be a “Front-Engined 2+2 Hybrid”

Japan is a very special place. On one side you have all the old folks that like to play with bonsai trees as a pastime activity, on the other side we have all the “Only in Japan” things we know thanks to that wonderful invention called the Internet. But this is autoevolution and bonsai trees are of no importance.

Japan matters to us, first and foremost, because of its wonderful and highly-technologized automotive industry. Right off the top of any petrolhead’s head, four names come to mind: Nissan GT-R, Honda NSX, Mitsubishi Lancer EVO and Subaru (Impreza) WRX STI. Let’s go a little through all of the aforementioned cars.

First of all, the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X will go out with a bang - the Final Concept boasts with a whopping 437 horsepower. As for a viable successor for the rally-bred contraption, not much is known about the EVO XI or whatever Mitsubishi will call it. While the Subaru WRX STI is relatively new and has nothing to prove at the present moment, the NSX is even fresher.

The 2016 Acura NSX debuted earlier in January at the Detroit Auto Show and Jerry Seinfeld placed an order for one on the spot! Animated by a twin-turbo V6, three electric motors and a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the hybrid supercar is expected to push “over 550 horsepower.”

That’s 50 horsepower short when compared to the $149,990 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO, that’s if the Honda-owned brand won’t go over that 550 HP mark. All in all, this comparo is just enough for us to understand where the upcoming R36 Nissan GT-R will be heading towards in terms of out and out muscle.

It’s hard to put a number of the next generation GT-R’s specs, but more than one high-ranking Nissan official confirmed that the legendary Godzilla it’s going hybrid.

With this bit of info already known, it’s not surprising to see the Nissan R&D team benchmark R36 prototypes against the 2016 Acura / Honda NSX. So it was already known that the R36 is going hybrid, yet Top Gear UK comes up with a story titled “New GT-R will be front-engined 2+2 hybrid”. Yaaaawn...

Speaking to Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s chief creative officer, the British automotive publication found could come with only a mild “GT-R will always be a front-engined 2+2-seater coupe.” Again, nothing new here, which is a little disappointing coming from Top Gear. But that story hides one very interesting detail.

When asked about the various R36 rendering that popped up on the Internet, Nakamura replied: “Yes, I've seen them. Not one of them is close [to how the car will look],” which implies that the R36 Nissan GT-R will be extremely different from the outgoing R35-gen in terms of exterior styling.

Last but not least, this bit of intel may also interest you: the R36 arrives in "2018 at the earliest.”

The tail looks good (if a little too close to the Ford GT), but the front end is a mixed bag.
The A-pillar just doesn't look good - the angles somehow make it look bulbous/ponderous.
Still would be a marked improvement over the R35 though.
