I'm curious, I know what the listed residual value was when the car came out. Anyone have any updates to help these poor souls move into a nice 4k lb block of steel? |

I had to test drive this car 3x's before it all started to add up and make sense for me enough to actually buy one. I had a lot of reservations to start off with. I have sharper edgier cars, more powerful cars with more cylinders, grippier cars with AWD. In the final analysis, it simply was the most versatile jack of all trades daily driver for a single person available with great performance potential based on how I like to have fun driving. It also has a stupid funny 'character' that makes you want to giggle after you do dumb stuff like donuts or a slight drift before you put the car to bed at the end of the day. Despite not being the best at any one thing, it's the only car I have that makes me want to do 'just one more thing' before I park it in the garage. This car is just funny. I laugh getting close to 40mpg on a long trip. I laugh when I take an off ramp at ludicrous speed weaving through traffic and the car's aero doesn't flinch. I laugh when people or things stand in the middle of the street and pretend to be cones. I laugh going to Home Depot or IKEA and hauling back a desk or set of shelves. To me, this car is freaking hilarious and I love it for it. Thin paint, crickets and all. If this car had a British badge on it, people wouldn't be complaining about anything. Quirks are special if you're British...or even Swedish. Last edited by abraxis; 05-15-2015 at 02:46 AM. |

I've driven my friends 2010 gt500. it's an insane amount of power which is fun on the straights. I broke almost highway speed limits near the end of 2nd gear in it. You're never gonna need that much power during any kind of normal regular driving. But if you wanna drag it's fine, the car rolls around corners due to having so much weight i couldn't like it for a daily. Plus gas mileage I also think there's too many trolls lurking this thread

Funny you mention the RX-8, I actually the first model year pre-ordered but backed out after the whole hp debacle when it came out (Rated at 250hp had to be de-tuned to meet US emissions to 238hp). I still got to test drive it before I backed out, but in a feel perspective that engine was amazing. So smooth felt like it could rev forever. A engine with that kind of character is what I would have liked in the twins. However, I think the renesis's was too impractical with burning oil and mpg to be my #1 choice. I actually wouldn't have minded an inline even if it did raise the cog. I don't think the small increase in cog would be a huge detriment to the overall feeling of the twins. The C7 has a lower cog than the twins and that has a v8. |

The point I was trying to make was to people who were for some reason thinking I was a troll and thinking the car is perfect and my opinion on what I would prefer is wrong for some reason. So, in turn I was making the same point you made as in no car is perfect and I'm sure others believe would change things on this car to better suit them. That' why we mod no? |

LT1 and LSx motors still are lower CoG than an inline 4. Not to mention the C7 has far less ground clearance. People forget or don't realize the 86 was designed to have around 5" of clearance for DD. C7 is around 3.25".
Yes it would have effected the handling and yes the front end and hood would have looked pretty different, maybe even weird. So change your suspension and drop the 86 1.75" and remeasure that CoG versus the C7. |

I think the c.g. factor is hugely underrated and forgotten now that engineers are no longer the people being interviewed about the car. Every Honda, Toyota, Miata, BMW, Mustang, Camaro I've been in out of the box all have massive amount of body roll and the primary medicine is a stiff, jarring, suspension to keep the car flat, which compromises daily ride quality. I'm not saying the 86 rides like it's on a cloud (it is rather stiff) but from the first turn to the one I took tonight on my way to dinner, body roll was nonexistent, egging me on "yeah you could have taken that '25 mph' off-ramp at 65 instead of that wimpy 45 you just did". Edit: Not to sleight the RX-8, if the 86 never existed I'd probably be driving one right now as it's the only thing that qualifies as an affordable lightweight RWD coupe built in the last 10 years. And as already evidenced, I've got a hard on for rotaries. I'm hoping to pick up a 7 (SA/FB) before prices creep out of 'toy' territory. Last edited by strat61caster; 05-16-2015 at 03:28 AM. |

I am going to make some broad sweeping generalisations for which I do not have data to support my hypothesis.
Ready? Here we go. This is a BRZ/86/FRS forum so it stands to reason people who are interested (either in a positive, negative or ambivalent way) in the car will look at this forum and perhaps participate in discussion. But what about all those other people who bought the marketing and salesperson spiel and just drive their car as a dd, week-end toy or 3rd car. That is, it is just another car to them that doesn't require any mods or discussion. I am suggesting this applies to the majority of owners world wide. It can't be all things to all people.

Very satisfied. It is beautiful, fun to drive, and was the cheapest car I've purchased in nearly a decade. It makes me want to be a much better driver.
