I read today that Toyota is recalling millions of cars because of defective airbags that spontaneously ignite.

Seat sides then? That's the way I understand it. I'm going to check the owners manual to see if it's the case.

I think you're confusing two different recalls. Airbags installed in some Toyota vehicles may inadvertently deploy, while other airbags may have defective (overcharged) ignitors which could cause fires or injury when deploying.

That second one pretty much affects every Japanese car manufacturer to some extent, since it involves a large number of Takata made airbags, which they all use.
