It LITERALLY is less than 15 minutes start to finish and only requires a 10mm socket wrench with extension and a phillips head screw driver.
^ This is true. Super easy install. If the thief messed up your center bezel trim piece, buy another one online for $65 new or less if you can find one on eBay or something.

Well, if that's the way the OP wants to go, that's fine...he's already reported it to insurance, so even if he ends up not going through insurance, he'll still be flagged in the system as a higher risk... sux. =(

Soooo...I haven't tested this, but I have activated the alarm on my BRZ. Does that mean if my doors are opened without the alarm being disabled it will sound an alert? Or...is the "alarm" = "immobilizer"? Some people talk about both like they're interchangeable. From what I understand, they are 2 different security features. Someone corrected me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: just tested the alarm and it works like you would expect. Horn sounds and lights flash if door is opened without being unlocked from key fob.

That crappy stock unit isn't even worth $300, much less $500, in my opinion. So many better options at $500, and nothing to go on your insurance.

Well, that's what a couple of insurance brokers have told me..... and true or not, it's not something I wouldn't put past an insurance company to keep tabs on....

Why doesn't the head unit have a code to re-activate it if it is disconnected from the battery power? This seems like basics.

The real question is... What good can you do with a face plate? Sell it on craigslist to where the demand is the original owner? LOL

I bet the shift knob is worth more than the face plate to this POS HU.

Are there any surveillance cameras at the parking lot?

The thief was probably trying to remove the whole unit but without the right socket and extender you can't undo the bolts. He probably pulled and the faceplate came off.
