Here's are some local game stores that I know of:

Game Kastle (Fremont and Santa Clara)
Channel Fireball Game Center (Santa Clara near SJ Mineta)
C&J Comics (Newark)
316 Collectibles (Newpark Mall)

Only coffee shop that I know is open late is Suju's coffee.

How about Game Kastle in Fremont one of the weekends? The store is clean and they sell snacks and drinks. I also have a few friends who might be interested in joining also.

I'm down for weekends! anyone else going to play as well? I'd love to meet and talk about cars and stuff while we play -- friendly game, no carnage. I can bring extra dice and rings if people want to use them as counters.

Everyone is welcomed regardless of skill levels, even if you are a complete noob. Most people play Magic because they enjoy playing Magic. The game is complex, but learning the game isn't hard.

I can't do it this weekend unfortunately, but Game Kastle definitely seems like the spot.

Wow, I haven't played MTG since high school! I used to run Red Goblin, Green Elves, Green Beasts, and a white Cleric deck....but I've always wanted to try a werewolf deck. I'm not sure I even remember how to play haha, I've still been playing YGO and vanguard tho.

One of my friends pointed out a really cool cube. It is a desert cube. The flavor on the cube is really unique. There's actually a shortage of lands, so each player needs to draft their lands. Anyways... check it out here:

That would defeat the purpose of the desert cube though...

I am looking forward to the desert cube. Everyone is going to have to pay attention on drafting lands and fixing mana. I think what's crazy about the lands also is that most of them are lands which require you to lose life in order to make mana. I think the cube adds another layer of complexity as you need to figure out how to make your mana.
