I will be out again for next CSCC on Sept 27th, and I now get to drive solo so lighter and more fun. It would be cool to have more 86's out. CSCC definitely is not as organized as ProDrive, but overall it was a good experience.
I nabbed a marble too. Mine didn't last a whole lap like yours, though. Was that what you thought were counterweights? That would be good news.

I really want to go but here's the deal. I went through more than a cup of oil the other day.

Since then, I've been reading up on the oil temp / oil pressure / oil starvation issues.

I can't in good conscience go back out before first installing an old-school mechanical pressure gauge. You know, a fast one so I'd see the needle bounce if the pump ever sucks air.

And second, I can see where a catch can is a really good idea.

So, that's my to-do list. Wish me luck.

You running an oil cooler? Its honestly the best investment you can make if you track often.

I'd also only heard that oil starvation was an issue once you start running slicks (or super wide tires) but haven't seen data to back it up. I'll be interested to see what you find if you do install one.

It was my first track day ever. I'm trying to keep an open mind but it's only a matter of time before I admit to myself I'm hooked. Fucking racecrack.

Anyhow, oil cooler - yeah, I was thinking I'd be able to estimate oil temp based on pressure drop. I'm guessing it's in my future but I'm trying to take a one-step-at-a-time approach. Do you have one?

That totally makes sense. I'll blab anything I learn. Looking forward to meeting you.

Yep, you've already caught the bug, nothing you can do about it now

You got an android phone? Buy this
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-Bluetooth-diagnostics-Android/dp/B005NLQAHS"]Amazon.com: BAFX Products - Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light & diagnostics - Android ONLY: Automotive[/ame]

It will communicate with your ecu and allow you to monitor temperatures on your phone (using an app called torque). These cars have an oil temperature sensor from the factory so might as well use it, right?

I do use a Perrin oil cooler, highest I've seen my oil get is 234 degrees on track.
I did compare with someone not running a cooler at one track day and we saw a repeatable 60 degree lower oil temperature in my car.

I haven't looked/reserved a room yet. I was thinking of looking in Grass Valley instead of The Dalles first. Do you want to share a room? Anyone else want to share a room?

@stockysnail, sure it'll help me save more money to spend on gas! Where in grass valley is there to stay? I thought the called was about as close as one could easily get.

My recommendation for an oil cooler would be to walk in to Perrin's showroom and buy it there, they give some pretty sweet deals to locals. As for dry sump good luck with that! Not sure anyone makes one yet.

Not sure how deep ypour pockets are, but here is a race ready long block with dry sump and supercharger for sale

I think you are the devil. Ooo, I see the TRD supercharger. I heard Ken was selling his spares. Did he quit using them?

Not the devil, just the worst kind of enabler!

I heard a rumor that he is switching platforms and racing in another series.

@litemup - correct, no issues with counterweights - was just rubber on the track that I picked up.

If you guys are going to ORP on Sept 8th, has anyone rented a room for Sunday night yet? I was wondering if I could double/triple up with someone? I'd be happy to sleep on the floor if need be. I'm a little broke after buying the bike and the soon to be riding gear this weekend.
